Put mine out the first Sunday in Jan. The deer have been hammering it since. I'd keep refreshing it every 2 months if I didn't plan on hunting in illegal zone spelled out in the baiting law.
Like IBH1983 said, you may get some of them to stay. The las few years this has happened on our place and the best have stuck around. The place has ample food opportunities and generally we killed the oldest on the place that same season so there was room for them to move into the area.
Here's a good podcast that will possibly help one to understand the WY elk draw system and the new general units. It also sheds some light on how little control DNR's can sometimes have in setting up scientifically driven policies.
IMO I think you'll draw with 5 for general but the new special price might have thrown everything out of whack. If 5 don't get a general, that will set a few elk specific forums on fire. Good luck, remember, you can't win if you don't play.
The preference point game has always been a ponzi scheme and nobody noticed until people wanted to cash out that had been paying in for so long. Now WY is a train wreck for NR because of preference points(other states doing that will soon follow). A very large percentage of multiple point...
I don't consider what they're doing as anti NR, they are just protecting the residents opportunities. Very similar to what IA does with their deer hunting. I would want my state to lean heavily on protecting resident's hunting opportunities over allowing more NR. NE finally put a limit on NR...
Go out a day or two after a good snow event. (my opportunity is going to start today through this week) Walk every fence line, creek bank(both sides), timber areas and any other cover one may have. Mark the locations of only coyote tracks in places that allow one to set a snare 12" high with...
I used whitetail extreme for my first seeded food plot into a killed off a former brome field. It's use was incredible for 3 years. I bought it because it had been marked down to a crazy low price to dump it. Deer use was incredible, however during this I time fell into this addiction of...
Looks great. I would plant screening along the outside edges of the new food plot, opposite of the timber, regardless if you're going to set stands there. Deer will be that much more comfortable to going out into it. Miscanthus gigantus will create a permanent, screen or there are other yearly...
I know this is a thread on IA but I'll just offer this info to broaden the issue. NE has their rifle season in mid November, prime time to kill deer, if that is the goal. NE's deer kill was down 18% from last year and 29% down from the 5 year average that ended last year. There is something...
The IBC tanks that I have been around have very thin walls compared to the Hoover ones. They are at least 3/8". The guy explained that he used these type of totes because he didn't want the totes to be cracked by inadvertent hits by a skid loader. These things can take a big hit and not crack. I...
If a person is wanting some lesser expensive tanks, there is a guy selling 330 gallon Hoover tanks that held chlorine for 30.00 on FB out of Omaha, NE. He's already washed them out but I will be cleaning them again for my own peace of mind. I'll use baking soda and vinegar. They don't smell at...
Like Marty, I have tanks all over my farm even though I have two dams that hold water. Mine are all dug into drainage routes and fill up easily when we get an inch of rain. However last year and this year mother nature kept them dry for the most part. The ones I can drive to, I've been filling...
Sorry this is so long but I feel it may help someone
I have been running cuddelinks since 2017. They have missed a lot of pics. They have the latest firmware updates and I have replaced the lenses. I run all my cameras facing a northerly direction.
I have mounted a browning black ops and a...
