Assuming you have the power in 2024...

#1I think the late muzz season is too long..if it stayed the same length, I'd like to see no scope or at least low power without range and windage adjustments. #2 One buck tag and a possible extra landowner tag..The landowner tag would allow property owners to manage cull bucks and keep the one...

    Rain so far.

The hail did bend 20% of my corn stalks over and a lot of the leaves have holes in them..Anyone seen the stalks straighten back up on their own if they are bent 45 degrees or so?

    Rain so far.

I had a lot of heavy rain and some hail last night in Decatur co. I'm going to check plots this morning to see if the hail did any damage..

    Iowa Cell Camera rules

Don't tell people they are banned and then change your mind. Very unorganized and indecisive.

    Other states stepping up

I see your point. I think quality is decreasing all over the USA though (even worse outside of Iowa). I think the main culprit is technology. It has enabled people to shoot bucks that otherwise would have survived therefore reducing quality. I think Iowa leading the way on good regulations makes...

Podcast - IW & the land podcast! Feedback?!?

Great job! You and I are so similar in the way we think about deer hunting I could complete your sentences in the podcast..The problem is we are in a very small group. Most hunters want it to be as easy as possible.....Crossbows, guns, bait, unlimited tags, etc...people like you, me, and a lot...

    Iowa Cell Camera rules

A game warden clarified the cell cam rules yesterday on YouTube. No change on private land, just public.

    Waterholes revisited

Here is a couple of pics I took from the stand last year over a water hole..it held water good even with the drought.

    Waterholes revisited

The farm I bought last year had water holes already in place and I couldn't believe how well the deer used them. Almost like they prefer them to a pond. I would see all the bucks in the area come to those waterholes while hunting. These were dug into the ground, no tank.

Turning the corner in the real estate market?

Good points and i agree. Congrats on the new farm! You need to buy the 400 acres that borders me on the south when/if it goes on the market.

Turning the corner in the real estate market?

I think splitting land up is horrible for buck age structure for obvious reasons. But land is so expensive now they almost have to spilt it up to sell farms. Even wealthy people cannot afford to buy land now, it's only the ultra wealthy that can afford to buy medium to large tracts. I'm not sure...

    Alfalfa

Is there anything you can spray on alfalfa to kill grass or small broadleafs? Alfalfa is not round up ready.

    Is this Bow Hunting?

Videos like this and long-range muzzle loader videos should be saved and shown to lawmakers next session when they are looking at regulation changes. It will be a huge challenge to keep crossbows out of Iowa during archery season, but I think we can do it I saw firsthand how crossbows were...

    Iowa Cell Camera rules

Supposedly the DNR is now saying cell cams can still be used on private even when hunting. The exception is cell cams alerting you to deer approaching your hunting spot while you are actively hunting there. We'll see what the regs say when released.

Turning the corner in the real estate market?

EHD may be a big cause. Older landowners not wanting to wait years for it to recover. Aren't they shooting a lot of deer (bucks too) on the Missouri line in MO for CWD? That may be causing people to sell that are near the Missouri line?

Turning the corner in the real estate market?

It seems like a lot of farms (and some real good ones) are going for sale in Appanoose and Monroe counties recently. Why are guys bailing from this area?

    Iowa Cell Camera rules

If they did that, it would be a solution most would probably agree on. I have mixed feelings about cell cams and really hope deep down they disappear. I have used cell cams the last couple of years in areas I don't want to access and spook deer. Even though this doesn't target one specific buck...

    Iowa Cell Camera rules

I think that would be abused and not many would abide by a rule like that. I have several cell cameras I will gladly cancel the service on if this becomes law on private ground. I think hunting should be hard and not easy like most want it. Being intrusive and checking cameras on a regular basis...
