    Cold weather activities/trapping

I'm betting plumbers and heating companies will stay busy over the next couple weeks. Could you imagine your furnace, geothermal unit, or in floor heat going out in -15 degree weather.. :(

    Brutal weather coming

It should be named the shed buck season and poacher season. I wonder how many giant bucks get shot in this season and no one ever knows.

    Land prices / insane!!!

Recently, I scheduled to go look at an 80 acre piece for sale by owner in Southern Iowa. Priced high and no income but looked like a great hunting tract. The owner called me after I scheduled to look at and said someone just paid full price and bought it without even looking at it. So, there is...

    Brutal weather coming

I'd hate to be a deer the next week or so, especially the ones with limited food around.

    Season over December 31

Agreed! Landowners who run friends and family members thru all season are bad, but outfitters are the worst. They can destroy a neighborhood quick..if you think about it, everyone books this hunt and plans vacation in advance. They come to shoot something and not have tag soup..The outfitter...

    Season over December 31

Yes..Everyone should look up McWhorter muzzleloaders on YouTube and watch the owner in his video. He claims it's a 600 yard weapon. No way that should be allowed in a primitive weapons season..There are many more including brand name muzzleloaders that are long distance weapons now.

    Season over December 31

I would be for ending late muzzleloader on December 31st, and would like to keep bow going as it does now. January is actually my favorite time to hunt the whole season, and I see every buck on my farm in January..if you use a muzzleloader it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

    Soybeans

I'm not sure yet..the farmer on my old farm handled this for me..Now I'll be doing it.

    Soybeans

I have a lot of soybeans still in a couple of plots and next year I will put corn here. What is the best way to prevent volunteer beans coming up in the corn? Bush hog the beans soon and let them rot on the ground, or just plant the corn on top of the beans and treat the volunteer beans with...

    Survivors!!! (Well almost)…

This weekend will be the last big threat for the youngsters to make it another year. The weather looks good which is bad news.

Hypothetical: if money was no object

I'd purchase a huge chunk of land in Southern Iowa..Maybe 20,000 acres in one block and create a deer paradise. No need to worry about all the young bucks being shot anymore and just chase giants every year.

    POLL: MOST BENEFICIAL REGULATION CHANGE?

Reducing to 1 buck, 2 for LO is good..I also think late muzzleloader season is too long.

    Eyes opened- crossbows

Unfortunately, most hunters want hunting to be as easy as possible. We are definitely going to have a huge battle on our hands keeping them out of Iowa.

The future looks bright for Charlie on the Sligh family farms. :D

Thoughts on bulk feeders and costs ?

I've seen that as well. I'm as anti-baiting as anyone out there and hate the thought of hunters baiting. But, in Iowa even if someone is caught, I don't think they could be prosecuted. In the rules and regulations, I didn't see anything about baiting being illegal. Iowa needs to step up and make...

    If you could change-

    1. Change shotgun season to just one 8-day season. Make the late Muzzle loader season 7 days. Right now, it's 5 weeks of basically high-powered rifle season. The shotgun seasons get straight wall cartridges, and some muzzleloaders now shoot 500-600 yards. Not much different than using a 30.06...
