    Acorns to Oaks!

The vigor off a white oak I’ve found continues to impress me. We’ll see if this young progeny holds the same traits, but thus far that seems to be the case. The tree growing next to it is a swamp white oak with various Concordia grafted on top. The alba has a fair amount of acorns still holding...

    Acorns to Oaks!

It works well for the species i've tried it on, I do that with persimmons and gamagrass.

    Rain so far.

Pretty dry in my area of northern MO. We've had some intermittent rains, so I figured it would be a breeze to plant some ozark chinquapins a couple weeks ago...that ground was hard as a rock.

    Native Warm Season Grass

A stellar eastern gamagrass plant. If anyone has seen this plant in IA, I’d like to collect some for my seed repository. I’ve found a few in IA driving miles from Centerville over to Leon, but there aren’t many left with the current land practices. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Other states stepping up

Back in 2003 or right around that time, they had surveys ( I received one) and public forums to talk about what option to go with moving forward. The options were APR's, move the season and earn a buck...and maybe leave it as it is. My vote, and what I mailed in was to move the season, but...

    Native Wildflowers and Plants

I’d recommend anyone going with a native wildflower planting to add in the desmodium species (tick trefoils) They’re a favorite on my place with a lot of other weeds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Now what?

Keeping a few plots in that exact shape for the summer is great for brood rearing and cover for fawns. Those "weeds" can be some great free food as well. I leave a few in that condition for summer every year in the rotation and put them back in fall plots.

    Is this Bow Hunting?

I wouldn't call it bowhunting.... I can remember people making fun of the early wheel bows back in the 80's when we'd shoot bows every week in town.

    2024 Target buck

I had a fully mature buck on camera like that who disappeared last fall around that time....found out he moved a mile east where another landowner had him on camera thereafter.

    Acorns to Oaks!

If you have a barn or some other structure that will keep them dormant but more temperature constant that'd help a lot. Best solution is to just plant them in early fall to give them plenty of time to "settle" in for winter. Last fall, some ozark chinquapins I transplanted out of some 2-3...

    Tree Planting

The trees those seeds came off of have piles of persimmons hanging through November in Mercer County, MO. I think I posted a pic of the trees last year somewhere here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hard to believe this alba was an acorn itself I planted in 2016. The amount of acorns this year are looking immense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great podcast to listen to! Steve Hansen on the Land Podcast

This 3 year old made it this past fall...but only because we all passed him and have neighbors on board now to do so....everybody passed him as he was all over the place.
