    Regs Dialogue with MDC Director

Wow, that's insane. Say goodbye to age structure..

Not sure how that works with MO 2 bucks rule.. Only 1 before rifle. I’d have to look into that..

    Hunting in high winds.

Mixed bag here. Some movement on windy days, also lots of not much. Seems like my neighbors bottom fields are best on windy days. My ridge field is a ghost town with 20+ mph winds. Morning or evening.

    Dakota's first deer

    So awesome!

    Common here.

Disagree. Even though we don't have the age structure in MO, average 2 and 3 year old antler size and score have increased substantially over the past 20 years in our area. When we do have an older buck slip through, they've been 145 - 175 range at 6. And I'm in the "hills", not the...

    Drone spraying herbicides…is that done?

My neighbor quit using drones for his ground due to their payload limitation. You will either end up with quite a few trips, or in his case underspraying and not killing what you intend to (worse off, likely creating resistant strains that could be tougher to kill later). All that said...

    Fence Laws

And in MO the neighbor can lay claim to that "unclaimed" 20 ft of property, if 10 years worth of time passes. Adverse possession I believe..

    Food Plots - Eye Opening

Can you expand your planting area? If not, I would go to a clover plot. Fencing off doesn't do anything to help the nutrition of the local herd. Clearly there is a void. Lastly, if you cannot plant more, may be time to take more deer.

    Milo

September 21st, 2024 Developed into a good stand, happy with the results. Lots of good heads on here, despite the weed pressure. This 4 FT variety headed out over 5 FT easily, going to make the deer work for this food! Already getting a few nibbles in the section closest to the edge...

    "Lesser Expensive" No-Till Drills???

Anyone see the new Stealth series out from GP? A touch pricey but great lineup.. https://www.gpstealthpro.com/ https://www.shfarmsupply.com/default.asp?page=xAllInventory&sq=stealth%20pro#page=xAllInventory&sq=stealth%20pro

    "Lesser Expensive" No-Till Drills???

Lots of cheaper older pull behind drills out there, been in operation a long time. Much better built than any of these new chinavirus drills. Every once in a while there's a used Genesis 3 for a few more bucks out there.

What year did you start food plotting?

The hours I used to spend on this forum reading all of Paul Knox's posts.. Well ahead of his time. Hooked me for life.

What year did you start food plotting?

Started with hidey hole plots in 2008.. expanded to acres from there!

Harvest totals give a good indication of herd size and habitat quality, not age structure.. My county is among the top 5 every year in harvest, yet has a poor age structure. This tells us the habitat and fawn recruitment is great, but so is the hunter pressure during a time in which mature...

The age structure is definitely "young" compared to the surrounding states of Iowa and Kansas. Gun season during the rut is the #1 cause of this. Many more P&Y / B&C bucks taken from those states, despite our habitat and food being good (or better). The genetics in MO are as good as anyone's...

    Brassica yellowing

Same. My peas are yellowing quick, along with some radish. Without any rain in the next week, I suspect I'll be losing some daily..
