My opinion- should only be listed as owner/family. The tenant is where it gets used and abused way more than family in my opinion. For example- a guy used to be the “tenant” for his dad’s piece. But they both claimed LOT. Dad as owner, son as tenant. Just so they each could get 3 tags a year
What they should do- I’m general- the floating tag costs “$insert number” regular tags are normal. Idk- I think floating tag should be more money- even for a LOT
This is the start of all tags floating like youth- I’ve been against it since it started (even for youth- yes I’m a bad guy) once it started for youth then everyone with kids say “how great it was to pick and choose”… now look what it will turn in to. If you want to hunt, you make the choices...
I didn’t hunt (haven’t for like 15 years). Numbers have been low, we didn’t trap much. Last year we saw a jump after I trapped- and trapped heavily. I’m to the point right now where I’m hardly catching anything. I’ve got hen turkeys and pheasants both nesting in and around the property- watched...
Yes- I run 30 inch rows on a 7000 planter. My dad runs a 7100 on 30s and no problems either. Oddly- I have found plenty of sheds in them after season. But the flip side, once they find them growing they will eat them in a hurry too.
Our contracts are 1% can be plots/mowed is all on one farm. Other farm is 0- and have to keep trees/shrubs out.
So far- we’ve been checked the last 3 years (unsure how often they usuall my check- but before that it was like 5 years before we saw anyone)
Best thing I’ve done- is I’ve let my broody hens (chickens) hatch pheasant eggs and left them be outside. Mom teaches the things we can’t teach in a pen- far better survival rates in my experience.
Mennonite’s around me are taking out groves/wood lots for dirt cheap if they get the wood. Then they mill it, sell the wood, and make their money there. Being cheaper than everyone else has gotten them tons of woods/fencerows/creeks. My neighbor has them taking 10 acres of scattered pieces- some...
I think the thing that would bug me is “can see what’s on the neighbors”. So you are intentionally getting that info to pull those deer. That’s what I absolutely don’t like.
I still say- this is I’m sure a different topic- but if the state is looking for money they should be charging for state park passes/usage like every other state around us.
I’ve got 17 acres at my home place and 10 is in Forest Reserve. I’ve got some of the best farm ground in the state right...
So what’s crazy about it- after talking to the foresters in Iowa. They say “south of hwy 30 buckthorn gets almost non existent and it’s bush honey suckle that takes over”. They think it’s a temp thing. Also the Allamakee county forester says he hasn’t see buckthorn there yet (we have tons of...
