They need to grow some sacks.
With the split in politics, NR vs resident and trophy hunter vs occasional hunter...this has been very calm and collected for a legislative forum.
Not a chance in hell that they'll get them all written in stone. They'll pick and choose. Should we be waiting for a yardage on mineral licks before they consider it baiting? The DNR lives and breaths on stuff like that. A working farm before you get a LO tag? Come on man :)
Instead of tweaking, abolishing and creating laws slanted towards the trophy hunter, we need to keep and create laws for the betterment the herd as a whole and let the chips fall as they may.
Exactly...if you think you are going to do away with party hunting you're pissing in the wind. Wasted energy.
I wish they would clean up law and define the non use of cell cams during the season.
Resident or non, no one should be able to hunt either sex on a doe tag. You should be required to have a live or spent any sex tag in your pocket if you're party hunting.
Probably the most realistic idea yet on neutralizing the floating LO tag. It's doubtful it would have much impact but a nudge in the right direction. Most of the laws that you are going to change will need to be walked back incrementally. An example would be a powder charge restriction in late...
Well said OMB. We don't want to throw off the eletest vibe. We don't want to force them to choke on the trophy hunters wooden spoon. Then we become the ones with the conflict of interest and lose our credibility. Encourage, educate and fight the big ones in January.
If landowners or anyone else as far as that goes, would practice what we preach, that would go along way. Don't let the laws determine what we should and shouldn't do, just do what's right for your own property. Self governance...crazy concept. We could do a group burn on one of our tags in...
You'd almost have to get down to one buck tag per hunter, doubt it would fly with the non landowners. You definitely could do away with the LO tags. It would probably be a fight either way...you have my vote though.
This holds true with elected representatives right on down to hunting show celebrities and podcast people. Lots of conflict of interest and brainwashing going on. If you're going to watch CNN, you need to do it with an open and functioning mind.
Aw come on guys..."build back better" works for Biden! :D JK JK
Great points Skip as always. I guess you have to ask yourself, what caused the start of the downward decay 30 some years ago? We're circling the bowl but I'd guess we are due for a bump up. Six months til Rut and a new president...
Instead of what seems to be a never ending fight for mediocre deer hunting in Iowa, maybe we need to change our approach a bit. Let the numbers fall, let it get washed out. Let the State and DNR get back on our side. Rid it from all that brought it down in the first place and keeps it down. Just...
I remember my first P&Y like it was yesterday...he's still on the wall! lol. Hopefully the new hunters outgrow it like we did:) I have a buddy of mine that never outgrew it. He talks about his bad neighbors and I tell him, you are the bad neighboro_O
I might be all wrong on this but...these super celebrities with huge properties are so well insulated, they could care less what the deer population is outside their property line in the cheap seats. They probably do still need to take does. Almost like living in a gated community with the hood...
Agreed on the politicians but as a whole, we need to educate the new and young hunters. We did it on the overkill in the antlerless seasons...should work on the young bucks also. We are the ones ultimately pulling the trigger.
On a positive note...these consistent rains this year sure do help...
Too many new bowhunters buying 20-80 acre pieces, many from cut up larger farms, all equipped with a kill box(food plot)is a large part of the problem. All you need to kill a deer is a 5 acre field and a food plot with a blind. Food plots are biting us in the arse much like baiting. Throw up a...
I'm not sure what's worse, a pack of dogs running your property or a pack of coyotes chasing your deer in January and eating your fawns in the spring but it definitely needs to be the landowners choice.
I have to say...all of these undecided lobbyist are concerning. Politics and incrementalism is a big chess game, they should always be for or against or they're not giving it enough thought.
