Using pyrodex P. I even get hang fires with goex! That tells me i got a burr or something in the breech holding up the powder and not letting it flow. I always do the pump action in a bucket of hot soapy water and also use a 30cal brush to clean out the patent breech.
wow that gun of yours came...
Did some off hand shooting today and holy smokes do i need to get away from that lead sled for a good while  Didn't do to horribly bad at 40 yards but still, that sled really lets a shooter forget his form of shooting off hand.
Great time though! I shot a cabelas hawken 50cal and didnt...
Robert, yours is perfectly safe as I made the adjustments to it and you even got some paper work telling you NOT to change to different brand of primers once i made the adjustments. This kind of stuff will always happen on forums, all you can go by is the trust in those that work on guns almost...
Well now that you said OLD.... LOL.... Im not sure if this was old or not but its a 54cal smoothie buccaneer musket. I think they used a lot of these in Africa and became known as the african trade musket.

Putting this together a little at a time. Bought the stock off ebay and then went to deer creek and bought a 58cal 1:66 twist barrel for it. I will have to have a new dovetail cut for the wedge key as the other 2 that were provided do not line up with my cut out. Tang and rear section of barrel...

Take the time to swab between each shot when shoot Triple 7, American Pioneer, Goex, Pyrodex.
Cracked pellets normally are inconsistent. Pellets for the matter typically suck as they do not allow you the ability to fine...
250gr Powerbelt Aerolite, Winchester W209 primers and 2 whitehot pellets. Swab the bore clean after each shot.
Does this Optima have a finger removable breech plug?
The Omega really doesnt need any upgrades but all guns could use a real good cleaning and re-oiling job. Free floating, budding the lug, stuff like that can always be done.
Dannyboy asked
"The question I would like an answer to is : even though I have zero issues with ignition as is, would I gain anything by going to a breech plug with a larger diameter flash hole? More complete powder burn, maybe?"
And i said no, just de-carbon it with an 1/8" drill bit...
