    Timber Stand Improvment

Plan on running a fire through there next winter on clearcut #1 picture. Fire in the next couple of weeks on picture 2...and I may run another fire through there next year as well depending on how it does. If it only burns the branches and leaves bigger stuff standing, no big deal.

I'm so far down here in SWMO, we can't get stuck because we hit rock so quickly below the soil LOL

Some TSI and bedding clearcuts / thickets...Currently have 4 clearcuts approx 1 acre each for bedding completed. Approximately 20 acres of TSI work done on southern slopes. Trying to get another 10 acres done here this spring. H&S around 3-5 acres as well, but I'll be waiting to see if that...

    Land prices / insane!!!

I recently read that 1 in 7 homes in America is owned by wall-street. So, approximately 15% (and that number continues to rise). I'd be curious to know how comparable that % is in regards to land. This would also drive up land costs.

    2021- the BIZARRE Year!!!!

If it's not one thing...it's another :)....multiple guys down here are now seeing bucks that have started shedding. Which, we'll always have 1 here or there this early. But, we usually don't start seeing this until a month from now or so. Anyone up there seeing shed bucks?

    2021- the BIZARRE Year!!!!

This is really interesting...again, I'm 300-400 miles south in Missouri, and myself as well as a lot of guys I know who take good / mature deer are all saying the same thing. Camera's were average to below average. Rutting was blah. Then, rifle season comes in Missouri and tons of 2.5 year...

    A Giant Goes Down…..

I didn't take it / read it as "bad"...I laughed because in Iowa this is a possibility! Crazy the amount of inches of jump in 1 year. The way I see it, is good for y'all to put yourself in position that you are able to pass on a buck like this. The self control AND RISK paid off. Y'all had no...

2021: Strange deer year to date: My observations

I know I'm 4-5 hours south of y'all, but it seems like weather wise October now has September weather from 5-7+ years ago. I think it's just cyclical, but from the looks of it our whole October could be short sleeve weather every afternoon. September has now also become the driest month of the...

CHEAP BACKPACK- AWESOME HUNTING PACK! CHEAP!!!!

Badlands should have a lifetime warranty....I just purchased their monster pack. I've gone the backpack route the past several years, but wanted to go with something a bit different this year with some of the things I'm doing. I received the monster pack, and really like it as of now...

    EHD management tactics….

Pretty interesting topic...Being from / hunting SW Missouri, we haven't ever been hit with EHD near as bad as the northern part of the state or Iowa. It's purely anecdotal, but I've often thought our rockier, less fertile soil has something to do with it. I.e. you see those EHD "stations"...

    Timber Stand Improvment

I will hinge cut to edge feather and push deer to a certain path closer to stands. Beyond that, I'm not a huge fan of it. When I have used it, waist high.

    Timber Stand Improvment

Agreed...We do heavier pockets more as "bedding" thickets, and are currently doing area's in between / next to them a little bit lighter. I am intrigued to hear peoples thought processes when tackling different projects.

What's the average size area's y'all are doing? I am assuming you are doing it in pockets when I ask this question.

    My habitat plan

Heavy TSI / FSI on your SE, S, and SW facing slopes...I mean heavy. Open the canopy up and let the sun get to the forest floor. Immediate food and bedding. On a northerly wind / colder days, they'll bed on these slopes. On NW, N, and NE slopes, you can keep a more closed canopy forest as they...

    New world starting today!!

I don't care who the president is, these days Executive Order's are way too easy to get done. We need a check / balance on these things. Crazy how they are just skipping the whole process of how things are supposed to be done.
