    Mt. lion?

Maybe a juvenile mt. lion, probably a big bobcat. Those things have massive feet.

    Killing locust tree's

I've yet to have a tree live using straight gly on a single girdle or stump.

CRP type programs with Short Crop History?!?!

If your ground is highly erodible you can also enroll in CRP without any specific crop history. Ground on slopes, runoff from other farms, etc.

    Apple/Pear Trees

Prepping for my spring planting of fruit trees, have about 100 russian antonovka apples, which grow true from seed, in my indoor greenhouse right now it rootmakers. Also have 20 various grafted trees on m111 from burnt ridge nursery. A while back there were postings of the Kazak apples that...

    Trapping Coyotes

High deer concentrations are of no concern. There are no deer because the coyotes have packed up and are using our farm as a bedding area, drove all of the deer out. I'm going to snare the place up. Its going to basically one giant booby trap.

    Trapping Coyotes

10-4. I'll read up on snaring and set 20 or so of those in the CRP. For the leg hold traps I'm using 3' fence posts driven all the way into the ground. The stakes didn't look solid enough and I heard a strong coyote can rip those out. He's not going to get a fence post out. Bummer on the...

    Trapping Coyotes

First off I want to preface this post by saying that I understand that you cannot get rid of coyotes permanently. That isn't my intention. I'm dealing with an overpopulation problem and need to kill a whole bunch. I typed up a whole crap ton of info but I didn't want to bore anyone so I...

    Sadly, season is over..

I like hunting but for me doing the predator control, habitat improvements, scouting out that next hotspot and spring food plot and fruit tree planting is equally if not more enjoyable. Busting the chainsaw out today and getting it running smoothly...doing about 500 yards of much needed edge...

    Well

Yeah could be the primers. I read somewhere that they can and do go bad. I buy fresh powder and fresh primers every year just to be safe. I dealt with a few hangfires in the past and don't want to go there again.

wondering: declining deer #'s, so why the rifle season

True, but about 5 years too late. ;) Make no mistake, the DNR bought into the deer overpopulation hype.

wondering: declining deer #'s, so why the rifle season

What our DNR should be embarrassed about it the over emphasis of the "management" of our natural resource and not understanding that nature plays a part in the ecological balance of wildlife. In the late 90's and early 2000's deer numbers were at their peak and deer had relatively low predator...

How are the shot gunners doing?

I think you guys need to be patient. The orange army was slaughtering small bucks back when Iowa hunting was at its peak. The January season is what is to blame for the recent downfall, and I'm guilty as the rest of them. I bought into the "balance the herd" BS when it first came out and we...

Southern Iowa Deer hunters take action

Does were shot before the dnr implemented the late season antlerless. Now that the season is gone I look forward to seeing the numbers rebound.

    Western Iowa Public Land Problems

Some guys are just idiots. Turn it into insurance and keep on hunting. Worst thing you could do is stop hunting there, cause obviously that's what they want. Sorry to hear about your truck.

    Which Muzzle loader

I really like my knight disc now after installing the Lehigh conversion. I can use blackhorn now with no hang fires and zero blow back. Drives tacks too.

    Trail Cameras

In my opinion the best value out there is the M990I Moultrie. I'm going to get a few Coverts in the offseason and give them a try next year.

    Muzzleloader Accuracy Issues

With blackhorn, no need to swab in between shots. I go all season without cleaning my barrel then give it a good cleaning at the end of the season. The painful thing about finding the right loads for muzzleloaders, is not only the grains of powder but the weight of the bullet and the...
