    Military... considering retiring in IA

Thank you! Much appreciated. It was a very rewarding career but after 24 years I'm definitely loving that I don't have to leave my family as often. We are loving all aspects of living in Iowa. It's a great place to be!

    Military... considering retiring in IA

I have only been here a couple years but like you mentioned finding a 160+ definitely hasn’t been a problem.

    Military... considering retiring in IA

Two seasons since I retired from the Air Force and moved to Iowa. I don't even have pictures of the biggest ones I have seen. No regrets!

    Where are all the WORKERS?

Also…with the outgoing baby boomers a lot of the original lower wage workers who have remained in the workforce have had some upward mobility in income with not enough low wage workers to replace them. My 18 year old son moved from part-time 12.50 per hour to $20 per hour full-time in 7 months...

    Where are all the WORKERS?

Exactly… if someone wants to come do my bidding for 12.50 an hour for 29 hours a week I’ll happily pay that and I’m not even generating revenue from their labor… just helping me get ahead on projects I want to get to but haven’t had time.

    Where are all the WORKERS?

With the inflation we have had, considering what it costs someone to supply themselves or their family with food, clothing, shelter, and transportation and hopefully a little bit of living outside of that a lot of the jobs available just don't pay enough to put up with what they face: abuse...

    Problems with dogs...any advice?

The things I've heard about the crew out of Bussey hasn't been great. Sounds like some real winners.

    Problems with dogs...any advice?

I'm between Pershing and Bussey so sounds like I'm in the thick of it.

    Problems with dogs...any advice?

Yeah - I'm 100% positive these dogs are chasing deer rather than coyotes. There is a dead-end B-road along the side of my farm and I believe they post up along that road.

    Problems with dogs...any advice?

Since the start of gun season 1 I have had guys running dogs through my lease (Marion County) every few days. I believe they are passing them off as coyote dogs but to be honest I have only seen them following and running deer. Also, I think it's pretty clear at this point they are intending to...

    Leasing Land

Finding good lease ground is definitely tough. Demand is high and supply is low. Last year was the first time I have ever leased ground and from a security cover stand point the ground was marginal 120 Acres, 102 in row crops, a few wooded ditches and a 15 acre patch of woods. It didn’t hold...

4 wheeler vs. quiet kat bike

Are eBikes/bicycles legal on most public lands/WMAs? I have seen guys on them before but had trouble finding anything in the regulations one way or another.

    The ONE that got away

This is the biggest one I have pursued. WA state public land mountain buck miles from any agriculture. Night photo was the first year I found him and daylight photo was the season he was killed by another hunter about 3 miles away from the area he frequented most....ended up being 205 inches of...
