Thank you. I have heard it’s nice. Surprisingly I haven’t been there...been to all the counties surrounding it but never been to Madison County. Going off my wife’s opinion from her visit.

More than five years since I wrote this post and the dream is finally becoming a reality. I am retiring from the Air Force and moving to Iowa this August. We are buying a house on a few acres outside of Winterset. We are excited for the next chapter!
I won't use my heavy gear until it's around 20 degrees and below. I own an HBS but I have found that I like Cabela's Stand Hunter Extreme Insulated Coveralls more. I stay just as warm and I am free to take care of business without unzipping. They do have more bulk but I haven't found that to be...
Well... I can post these pictures now that the buck is dead. A friend of mine hunted this public land/big woods/mountain WA buck for the past 3 years. He was at the local sportsman's show this past weekend and saw it hanging on the wall.

:D
Can you clarify why?
Like I said it's not all about the whitetail...Des Moines has a lot more opportunity for my kids and if you draw a 5-6 hour circle around Des Moines there is tons of opportunity for the kids future.. and WA isn't really my home... just the closest thing I have to a...
Here is a video of a friend of mine shooting a velvet 150 class buck in WA a few years ago.. It's self filmed/self edited but I think it's very watchable compared to most self-filmed stuff I see... (including my own unfortunately).

Every once in awhile these guys will show up on your whitetail cam..especially when you are hunting high but also in other areas that have decent populations. This is in a spot where I was hunting a whitetail at 5K feet.
