I know what you mean.. I saw how they did that with the Ohio Giant over on Archery Talk.
I have been fairly open with sharing for years over in the WA forums and fortunately I haven't had too many issues. The closest thing I had to an issue was a guy I personally knew as a "regular...
Yeah.. the greatest concern for most of us are other locals who will start following you around or looking for where your truck is parked. I'm not as concerned about non-resident pressure like I would be in Iowa.
It's certainly a sleeper. They are only hunted in the eastern half of the state and all of the bucks I have shown pictures of are from within 4 counties (the majority being from one). A lot of guys simply aren't entering their bucks. I know of one guy who has multiple bucks that would net B&C...
I tried to track down the story on this old monster. I had several people tell me they knew who had it etc... bottom line...nothing ever panned out... Love these old photos though.
I'm not an Iowa resident....yet... but when I retire from the military in 2.5 years I will be making it my home. For this reason I have an interest in ensuring bow hunting is protected, defended, and promoted in the great state of Iowa.
Is there any opposition to a current non-resident joining?
These pics aren't from my trail cams but they are pics of WA bucks I have collected from guys over the years.... all but one of them have been killed or dropped off the map... I have others that guys are still hunting that I'm not going to post for now. The one that hasn't been killed is very...
That last buck kill pic I just posted didn't get us to 11 pages so I will try this again.... This is the James Cartwright buck... killed in 1992. I wrote the article for North American Whitetail Magazine nearly two decades later (it had gone relatively unnoticed outside the local area until that...
To be honest. I think it's because people were extremely helpful. One of the the things I like about people in Iowa... And I tried to reply to as many people as I could so that probably nearly doubled the length.
1. Trophy Taker Shuttle T.
2. Because they taste good.
3. No.
4. I'm in in the military. He is my Commander in Chief... So I will keep my mouth shut. :D
Just found this article. It appears to show what is possible on Iowa Public ground. I'd like to just have the opportunity to locate and hunt deer like this each year in Iowa... this guy is consistently closing the deal.... very impressive.
"Over a 10-year span, Swihart had taken six bucks...
Thank you for the feedback.
I like possibilities. 160 is definitely big. It's hard to kill something that big on a yearly basis in WA (I cant and I haven't met anyone that has had a streak more than 2-3 years in a row at best). I feel pretty fortunate if I can kill a 160+ every few years...
That is good to hear... even if I live near one of the larger population centers I will have the luxury of going 2-3 hours away on a consistent basis and during the hunting season I will be able to spend a ton of time in those areas.
I have no doubt the deer taste better in IA. I have had a few...
My wife is torn like I am. We are both primarily torn between Iowa and Washington more so than any other states.
We have a large network of great friends and contacts in WA but her dad lives in Sioux Falls, SD so not too far away from where we would be in IA. The two kind of equal each other...
