Burning is fine. However, I have a section like yours. It improved from year one to year two. We are going to wait one more year to see the full results.
End of year three is always the magic year, regardless of the stand success early on.
Here is an incredible one in Michigan.

Few miles up the road from us.
Sigh, Some day I too shall harvest a deer like this. LOL
I know you did not say it but I agree that Michigan is no Iowa. But in Washtenaw County, MI, I know two people who have taken deer over 190".
My neighbor and another gentlemen up the road about three miles. It scored over 200". They are becoming more common as hunters let deer grow older...
Good point. We used Cave and Rock as the other blends seem to be new and not enough information out there about their long term viability. Not that they will not work. I was just being cautious.
Many state it takes three years to establish a good stand. Ours was decent at year two but this year should be incredible.

Either way I think planting in December will not lend itself well for germination. It most likely will not germinate until next spring.
Also, thanks for the correction as about 25% of the seed will not germinate. I think it will be higher with weed competition though.
Typically, individuals...
Here is what we did after a lot of research and reading hundreds of pages here.
Be Patient and do not panic until year four.
1. We disced and then frost seeded into corn stubble in the late winter.
2. Sprayed 2-4D, Simazine (Pre-emergent) and Glyphosate in the spring. (Mid-April in Michigan)...
2nd year switchgrass. Clover around the outside and soybeans in the middle. Could not find switchgrass the 1st year. Shorter switchgrass on the edges where more shade is present.
This! From the man himself.
Not that you should not spray again, but patience can be a powerful tool. We had the same issue last year. No foxtail this year and switch is all over the place. We did not spray again after the first application.

Could some post a picture of an individual mature Cave in Rock switchgrass plant. Maybe pull it out or cut it off at the base. Lay it on concrete and take a picture so the rest of us novices have a reference. Thanks in Advance!
That would be a big bummer. We frost seeded then sprayed with Simazine, 2-4d, and glyphosate. The ground was brown until mid June. Between this and the foxtail, I am not sure if there is anything else in the fields.
