    Planting sunflowers

5” - holy cow! I see why they rub them! We’ve experimented with sorghum stalks as scrape limbs - and it works decent. Similar philosophy I suppose. I might have to try your method!

    Planting sunflowers

Completely undisturbed soil on my test patch. Nuked gly, 2-4d. Follow with gly. Drilled, and followed with metachlor. Will fertilize here before the next rains. Will post results for sure! Sis in law is a photographer, so she’s been bugging me about a nice sunflower stand! Haha.

    Planting sunflowers

Same here, had the farmer run them through his bean drill. Did 25#/ acre. Have you used metachlor as a sunflower pre? Coop said try it, so we are trying on a 2 acre patch. What’s your fertilizer program look like for them?

NR party hunting to be eliminated

Haha. Must be! It sounds like more to come. Curious to follow no doubt. Agree on the social media side of things - many many folks have been talking about it all over podcasts and such over the past year, bring publicity to the ‘loophole’.

NR party hunting to be eliminated

Also, was told by a very reliable source that this is only the beginning. Another ‘BIG’ one, as he put it, will be coming out with the 24 regs as well. Curious how long the cell cams will last. Also heard the exact same explanation - governor wants all grey area cleaned up - which we have a ton...

NR party hunting to be eliminated

Is there any way that they could track these buck kills? I assume not at all. Would be curious what the actual harvest total is with this loophole

    Raccon bounty

I do agree that with DNR budgets razor thin, it doesn’t make much sense for the bounty to come from the general DNR budget pool. It would be awesome to create a fund - similar to the Arkansas turkey stamp. Anyone can voluntarily purchase the stamp, not required for any recreation activities, and...

    Trespass fines increasing ?

Thank goodness our local sheriff takes this issue very seriously. Apparently it is up to the county sheriff how they treat it. As I understand, ours is $750 first offense, $1,000 second offense, and sheriffs discretion thereafter… unfortunately I get to deal with this from multiple directions...

    Chainsaw Advice

I love the M. More efficient, and we haven’t had any real problems to speak of with the electronics, yet. Knock on wood.

    Chainsaw Advice

Another vote for 261. We run 4 261s, a 241, and a 210 for a typical 2 guy cut day. 261 all run same bars and chains, so dang simple and efficient. Those 261s are just very efficient powerful saws.

    Mock Scrape question.

Had a long reply typed up - somehow my phone deleted it so I will be concise. Last 5+ years we have made a point to test anything and everything we could think of in relation to mock scrapes. 50+ scrapes a year across southern and central Iowa, all monitored with cameras. Ranging from the most...

Kunz Till-ease with attachable harro & disc

A bit small for our uses. Selling as pictured. Everything works, I was told it was used 1 time for a small food plot before I bought it. $1750 located in Knoxville.

    Plot salvage

Almost exactly what we do. Works great, especially with good rain. We add radish and some clovers, pending time of year, conditions, and next years goals for the plot. I've done 200# of rye rate in the past - almost seems to come up like golf course lawns. I prefer the plant diversity and lower...

    Clover

Had a similar result this year on a 2nd year ladino plot. Ended up tilling and reseeding with oats / rye / clovers. Re-establishing clover stand with a variety to hopefully help survive summer. This area had been farmed by a fly by night type farmer for years, soil all cracking throughout the...
