Youth hunting? Tactics, what to shoot & anyone going?

I have been able to take various family members over the years, and my younger sister is up to bat again this year. Four years ago we got lucky and the giant deer in my avatar wondered into 12 steps on Sept 29th. From the ground. First deer she had ever seen while hunting herself. We could not...

    Honeysuckle treatment

I suppose that's why it works so dang good on stump sprouts. Good info, all honeysuckle needs to die, haha!

    Honeysuckle treatment

Interesting... Isn't triclopyr 4 specifically for stump applications?? Have had great luck with it, even on 15' mature bushes. Always had some gly in there as well I spose.

    Honeysuckle treatment

You can see a couple dead honeysuckle in this pic I snapped this am. This is some smaller stuff that we hit with triclopyr3, gly, 24d 2 weeks ago or so. Had tons of ivy in this area of the yard so we wanted to kill everything. Nuked it pretty good, some larger stuff I didn't get 100% foliar...

    Honeysuckle treatment

Simple to deal with - just takes some effort. Depends on size and severity of invasion.. if its fully mature honeysuckle, and a lot of it, a mulcher works great for large areas quickly. Also cut and treat stumps with triclopyr or tordon. Be careful with tordon if desirable trees in area as it...

    Spartan camera data plans

They are now controlled through Spartans app completely, no need for the cell phone plan + premium credits. Also, the cameras work off of multiple cell networks, whatever is best in your area. The camera automatically detects and connects. We have had absolutely amazing luck with these new M...

Des Moines metro v Iowa City metro

For what it's worth, I'm in Iowa City now heading to the children's hospital urology building, where I will be required to wear a mask due to covid-19... in March of 2023. This whole area of the state seems much more... yucky?... as compared to DSM. Seems U of I has some different philosophies...

    1 Buck state In iowa??

Where my macro concern lies is that habitat is dwindling, period. Eventually, without directed and focused management, the habitat loss will eventually lead to permanent declines in wildlife populations across the board. I think we can take a some form of a parallel from what's going on with...

    1 Buck state In iowa??

While that may have some accessibility validation, I would like to mention that these landowners "locking down private" are having a great impact, positively, on the deer herd that would NEVER be done without them. Never. The amount of habitat work that needs done, and the cost associated is...

Party hunting subject - and maybe this had been discussed - What if we were able to limit the party hunting aspect of gun season to antler less only?

Anyone ever bought a farm thru a self-directed IRA?

As I understand it, you nor your family can have any connection with the property, period. Not even to manage / repair the property. Everything must be managed through a custodian and contractors. Can't imagine how it would be enforced on a land / hunting perspective, seems like they'd have...

    Apple/Pear Trees

Interested in a possible fall fruit tree planting this fall. Fairly small scale, around 10 trees at this point. I've researched fall tree plantings in the past, and the various benefits that can have. Does anyone do fall fruit tree plantings? A main concern is water accessibility if we have...
