    TheMadCatter’s 2022 Adventure Thread

Will do! My last day working in Montana is August 22nd, I want a couple days before season to scout and become familiar with the area since I’ve only driven by it. It’s only a Ewe tag, I forgot to mention that! But, I’m still Sheep hunting. One of these years I’m going to have to try the Montana...

    TheMadCatter’s 2022 Adventure Thread

Those Rams were in the Badlands, these were in Montana. The Ewes, Lambs, and the Rams in the other Mountain Range run from us whenever we’re within 1/4-1/2 mile of them! These Rams (Montana ones on the opposite Mountain Range) just let me stay within a couple yards of them. I don’t know what...

    TheMadCatter’s 2022 Adventure Thread

Well, since the Euro is down so much I decided to book another Muskox/Caribou hunt for 2023 and pray I don't lose my deposit this time. This will be my only planned hunting trip for 2023 unless a miracle of a Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goat, or Moose tag happens. Returning my Colorado Mule Deer...

    Where are all the WORKERS?

Yes, but, 30 years ago if you graduated college you’d have a Biologist position right off the bat. People without degrees (or high school kids/college kids) had these technician position. Now people with their Master’s are applying for technician positions because they can’t get a Biologist...

    Where are all the WORKERS?

I’d rather work a job that I make $13 an hour (realistically less than that) without benefits. I make enough to hunt, pay my bills, and save just a tiny little bit for emergencies. (Guiding helps a little, but, I don’t make much more than $13 an hour doing it). Not to mention I’m able to have...

    TheMadCatter’s 2022 Adventure Thread

Wanted to push myself today and explore new country. We had unconfirmed reports of some of our Rams summering on a couple of backcountry peaks (last season, not this season). I decided to saddle up the four wheeler and lace up the Kennetreks and give it a go! Walked 1,600’ up the first ridge and...

I might or might not have ran down the stairs to tell everybody in our Sheep Bunkhouse I drew a Sheep tag like it was Christmas Morning...

2022 Idaho Bear Success - Two Bears!

Idaho is wild compared to most states I hunt. Wyoming you can see your destination, Idaho (especially where I’m at) you can’t see more than 100 yards through the thick forest! One of the only states I feel like I can get lost in.

    TheMadCatter’s 2022 Adventure Thread

May 12, 2022 Well, after the eventful day yesterday I had to keep the ball rolling! Killed a beautiful black bear in Idaho on my day off! Hiked to my baits and found out a couple of bears hit one of my baits. I went back in with another load of bait for my barrel and the bear was on the bait. I...

    TheMadCatter’s 2022 Adventure Thread

Sorry I haven't updated lately, I've been super busy and haven't been on my computer. But, this is what I've been up to... May 11th, 2022 - “I don’t have time” I kept repeating that to myself and it became reality. Instead of “I have three hours after work.” I took those three hours last...

    TheMadCatter’s 2022 Adventure Thread

Had to test the truck today to make sure my tires were good and no other issues in deep snow. Went into the Wyoming high elevation backcountry driving around, everything seems sound in the snow! Off to Idaho to pick up my bait permits in the morning. Gonna grab my Mountain Lion and Wolf tags...

    TheMadCatter’s 2022 Adventure Thread

I've been busy the last month doing my hunting research for this fall and getting everything ready for when clients show up this fall. I ended up applying for Oregon, California (Raffle, I'll apply for regular draw later if I don't draw anything), Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada...

    Boot gaiter recommendations

Had the plastic buckles on both of them break. This could just as easily happen with the Sitka ones too. But, I’ve used the Sitka ones all over and had zero issues with them in the last two and a half years. I’m sure you’ll love the Yukon’s! I’m super rough on stuff.

    Boot gaiter recommendations

I have a couple, but, my favorite are my Sitka Sotrmfront GTX. I had the Kuiu Yukon’s and have a backup pair of Outdoor Research Gaitors. The Sitka ones have held up the best. I’ve beat the ever living heck out of the GTX and they’ve taken EVERYTHING I’ve thrown at them.
