I don't disagree with others, Ragweed is great for wildlife. However, if your goal is native grasses, mow it. Looks like some grasses are keeping up with it, though I can't tell what species or if native vs annual warm season. If you choose to mow, no need to scalp it. 10-12 inches and it might...
Skip, you think there was any major difference in soil temp where the rye is, when you planted? Almost looks like it's just a handful of days or a week behind the no rye area. Was rye terminated when you planted or later?

Just finished up our 3rd night burn of the year, trying to cram them all in when the going is good.. Long days get old but everyone gets a pep in their step with the ambience of glowing smoke.

The big advantage with eradicating honeysuckle is it's the first plant to green up in the Spring and last to lose green in the Fall. Use that to your advantage. Spray late into October/early November with glyphosate. Your off-target kill will be minimal or non-existent at that time.
If it's...
I completely agree. I think there are a few obstacles to digest that make this the case.
1. Deer are thriving everywhere. They don't need vast swaths of land to reproduce/overwinter. Upland birds and waterfowl generally do.
2. The deer organizations have committed to advancing the "science" of...
Your first battle will be with whatever is growing there predominantly. If it's a cool-season perennial, especially. Otherwise, what IBH says. Dense mats of vegetation from crimping, understanding allelopathic affects and crop rotations will be key to fighting weeds. You might have to mow a lot...
That tree will likely have been harvested for the second time if you decide to take it. Pretty cool that one root mass can create 2 generations of marketable timber.

Regulation has a lot to do with deer having the chance to rebound. Agriculture does also, but in my opinion only from the perspective that it (grain) is acting as a stand in since nearly all of their native food (browse) has been removed.
Think of all the browse available in historic areas...
I'd make sure it won't spread all over your farm. Oriental Bittersweet was brought here on decorative wreaths and can ruin a timber in no time.

Thankful, as well. Not only stocked up on fish and game but apparently, the local Fareway butchered an unfathomable amount of beef. Most must have bought the cheap stuff.
End result... T Bones that were actually a Porterhouse for $5.99/lb!! Smoked and reverse seared tonight. Melted in my mouth...
Probably but I don't think herbicide is necessary at all. Some shallow discing in pockets is all that is needed to get succession rolling. Not permanent obviously but do you want it to be? The switch will eventually take back over, I see it all the time when discing is used for mid contract...
This is no different than identity politics. A few people claim an issue and want a resolution that is definitely not in the majority's best interest. What a waste of time. Of all the big fish to fry, this is the garbage wasting the time of the politicians elected only by residents of Iowa.
I...
