    Wow Just Wow....... Land Prices

I totally agree ^^. The land market is definitely softer now than 1-2+ years ago, as potential buyers that are influenced by lower commodity prices and/or higher interest costs have been shaved back. But the dudes with cash...still have cash, for the most part AND as IowaBowHunter said...that...

    Land Clearing

Skid it for a day, use a regular chain saw for another day or two, plant AND fence some potted oaks for the future and see how it goes for a year or two.

    Land Clearing

Is someone possibly slipping in the backside and scooping sheds on you? Looking at your photos...to me, you could rent a skidsteer with a mulching head for a day and somewhat randomly whack pockets here and there and create multiple "zones" where sunlight can get to the ground and leave other...

    Switchgrass

How late in the summer would you recommend planting? I have a bag of switch that I could drill in now. TIA.

    Need rain bad

My app told me this morning that we got another 4" yesterday at our farm. That is on top of about 3" more inches since Sunday. I kid you not when I say that is substantially more, as in 5" or 6" more, than we have received in other years for the whole summer. Time to build an ark! :)

    Need rain bad

Good question. I am wondering the same thing. :) Obviously, if your field(s) experienced run off, you could be looking at filling in some bare spots. But I think the bigger risk is all this rain and then possibly little to no rain over the next 3 weeks or so. If that manifests, then bare...

    Need rain bad

We must be sharing clouds...we have got about that much too since Sunday evening. Planted 2 acres of rutabagas and an acre of soybeans mixed with turnips and radishes. Will be curious to see how that worked out.

    Need rain bad

Just a little more info on the "wet" spots that I encountered the other day. These were in a field that was planted to rye/etc last year and then allowed to grow this spring until about 3 weeks ago when we mowed it. Then a week later, I sprayed it with gly. There was still plenty of rye...

    Need rain bad

Same here. ^^ Not to brag though...my app told me that I got 1.6" yesterday. And when I was wheeling around Sunday afternoon I hit a few spots that could be considered "wet". So I am getting rains this year to beat just about anything I have had in the past 4 or 5 years. Yay!

    Brassicas

FWIW...planted about 2 acres of rutabagas this afternoon and then about an acre and half of turnips/radishes. Plenty early IMO, but could resist trying to get some in before the rain tonight. :) I will plant more radish/turnips in about 2-3 weeks. Hopefully I am smarter then...as I left a...

    Is it possible

A couple of times in the past few years I have seen TINY fawns in Sept/Oct...making me think that they couldn't be very far removed from birth. An August born fawn seems plausible to me.

    Fertilizer options??

Will any given coop offer it with the coating?

    Fertilizer options??

Coated urea would be my preference. I have only ever had uncoated. Is coated urea available widely?

    Fertilizer options??

Thanks, I had already called them and their offering is more suited towards lawns and golf courses, etc, and the guy that I was talking to did not know whether or not their higher N fertilizer was prone to evaporation, or not. I really like Copenhagen's set up...I just need to find somewhere...

    Fertilizer options??

Are you getting this in granular or liquid form? (Because I can't see if the top of your bulk container is open, or not.) If granular, how do you get it out of the container and then spread it? TIA?

    Fertilizer options??

Which coop? Area of state? My farm is near Selma, IA. About 25 miles south of Fairfield. How many pounds do you get at a time in your tote?

    Fertilizer options??

All, I will be planting brassicas here soon and I want to use my no till drill to do so. Previously, my usual routine is that I would spread Urea, till it in, broadcast seed and then cultipack. What are my options in terms of higher N content fertilizer that is not volatile and can lay on...

    What's next for Republicans?

Terrible answer. While it can certainly be true that not every piece of background info could be known at this time...9 days is plenty of time to be able to answer that question 100 times better than that. She should have been fired on the spot for the sloped roof excuse...she should be fired...

Roundup Ready Corn & Soybean Food Plot

I don't want to discourage you, but we have seen the most damage when the deer can walk a row and nip the tops off. It's worse for us when it is a dry uear, which is not this year for us. Knee high to probably 4' tall...pretty vulnerable when unfenced.

    Apple/Pear Trees

Take my fruit tree advice with a grain of salt, I am nowhere near an expert. But I do have enough failures behind me now to throw some advice out there. :) I have had much better success with fall plantings, not spring...and this is considering that I often fight significant summer drought...
