Mature bucks piling in with cold spell

And the big 8 from the first post left his headgear somewhere in the snow. Of course this pic is on the opposite side of the farm of the first pic. :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Mature bucks piling in with cold spell

Combined corn (~100ac of the 400ac farm). 1 acre of standing/mowed corn. They are hitting the radishes/brassicas hard in our foodplots. And we put out 5 small alfalfa bales for them. That seems like much less waste than rolling a big round bale down the hill. Plus we have a ton of hedge mineral...

Mature bucks piling in with cold spell

With this cold spell, I’m seeing several new mature bucks that I haven’t seen before. I don’t recall this being the case in past years. Habitat and food work may finally be paying off! Hope they stick around for next year. :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Hedge

I’ve found hedge to be a great winter project and money maker for my older kids. They learn chainsaw skills and value of hard work. [emoji846]We sell as posts and traditional bow staves logs. Leave the stumps. MSU deer lab had a podcast where they said hedge mineral stumps were some of the...

    High grading bucks

Yes, 80-85% accurate is the figure I’ve seen. Much lower accuracy with molar wear method. Would I like 100% accuracy? Yes, but I can live with, and am ok paying for 80-85% accuracy to help inform my judgment. Plus, I’m convinced getting the neighbors involved is helping to improve the age...

    High grading bucks

I think a big part is education of what constitutes an older buck. I think people naturally look at the rack and think big rack = old buck. Quick story on this… Last year, I shared pictures of 3 bucks that were on my “no shoot” list with a couple neighbors. One neighbor is awesome. We agreed to...
