I think it depends on your situation. Rule of thumb is to manage a deer herd one needs at least 600 acres or more to have the ability to pick and choose, or harvest by age. Some have that ability and some do not. Can call it farming, managing, choosing etc. Makes no difference. I...

Bonker, I had correspondence yesterday with a reliable source that said 3129 did not have enough support and did not make it out of committee. I know this isn’t official but that’s what I was told.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

I agree with Skip. I’m as much to blame as anyone on this topic. I appreciate everyone’s passion. I’m gonna watch from here on out.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

What??? I do know him. He’s not a nrlo hunter. He’s old, widowed and leaves October 1. His resident neighbor to the East leases his property for hunting.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

The guy southeast of me is older and actually from South Carolina now and does not hunt. His deceased wife’s family owned the property that was transferred to them. He lives there in the summer and leaves October 1. He “leases” his property to a resident to his East who hunts it. Abell13, No...

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

I don’t know one NRLO near me. Period. The “guy” to my East is my brother who doesn’t hunt lol we invest together. That’s a stretch I think. If there is a guy from Georgia 2 miles away that’s hardly 50%. Again NRLOs aren’t bad people. Your inflexibility on this issue has created the non...

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

Absolutely not. Not over running my place with residents because I can’t manage my property I own. It’s ridiculous. I do permit my resident neighbor and his son in law to hunt. Doesn’t cut it.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

Well, at Skips numbers, which are inflated but let’s use them, you have 50% NRLO farms in all the counties he farms; with inadequate management practices under the current regs. The result is over population and risk of ehd and cwd. The legislators got this right

Lol. Right. Do you own land ? Or, are you just blabbing like most??

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

You know you take a lot of liberties. Is it 15 to 18 guys that shoot does, or 20 to 50% nrlo ownership , or 6 to 15 counties you farm. I know exactly who hunted my farm lastyear. Numbers are everywhere. Do you know the numbers? I think you make it up as you go. NRLOs are decent people. I’m...

Three things are guaranteed in life: death, taxes, and change. The key is to be ahead of change.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

Right. Let’s spend a bunch of money then employ a crew of “ locals” to hunt your property. Lol. How many resident landowners are in on that proposition??? None.

Refer one post above yours my friend.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

I thinks it’s obvious. Hardwood also made the argument. We have property we can’t manage that promotes habitat and disease issues. Not very difficult. If I don’t draw I can shoot one doe? Doesn’t cut it. No, I’m not having residents manage the land I pay for. If Iowa doesn’t want this...

Why ask me Bonker. You’re the authority here saying we created it. Have at it.

Slick, what’s your point with Dr. Zhang exactly? Foreign investment issues I assume?? Maybe after you address NRLOs you can switch gears and contact Iowa State University and voice your displeasure.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

Yes I have and I’m it for miles. I stated this fact in another thread. I don’t know another one near me. The only large land holders I know near me are residents who allow no hunting. This is traveled ground.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

Slick, so what. He’s one man who began an incredible business. So the Iowa legislature is at the beckoned call of one guy?? Highly doubt it. More to it as Hardwood stated.

Senate version of NRLO bill SSB 3129

It’s easy to blame NRLOs and money, however not all nrlos have deep pockets, and now to assert your own politicians are for sale is interesting. Maybe, just maybe there are legitimate conservation issues on NRLO land that have been ignored for years that do need addressed that they do...
