    2023 farm bill

Unfortunately FSA has no ability to work on new crp applications until there is a new farmbill. Just be ready for when the opportunity comes back around for signups.

    What is next best???

Not trying to be a smart alec.... but renting a no-till drill is next best option. $10-$15 per acre.

    FSA Frustration

So many of the farm services agency technicians do not know their own program or have ever looked at the manuals. Always insist on seeing the policy in writing. Get everything in writing. Also ask for your appeal rights in writing. That will get their bosses attention really quick and will...

Baling CRP due to drought- my 2 cents…

We agree on many aspects. Many people don't understand the purpose of crp. Yes it pays alot of baf farmers and sometimes takes good ground out of prodction. But Let's think about how/why crp was even started. In the late 70's the United States was producing record amounts of commodity. There...

    Killing mulberry trees

With cut stump herbicide treatment the only concern would be if the roots are inter-grown. You have no way to tell. Maybe cut and treat during winter might help reduce chance. 50% glyphosate 50% water.

Baling CRP due to drought- my 2 cents…

Not that it truly matters.... Crp manual was updated February 2023 to allow for "selling hay and grazing privileges. " So you may want to ask about that at your local fsa office. Be aware that managed haying/grazing is different than emergency having/grazing to fsa. Fsa is much more open to...

    Biggest sprayer tank on atv?

Water weighs about 8lbs per gallon. So that should give you an idea of how much weight your atv can handle. 25 gallons is all I feel safe with on atv. My utv handles my 60 gallon sprayer fine in the bed.

    TSS thoughts?

Each person has to decide for themselves. Is it effective-yes. Is it expensive-yes. Much like the gut who hunts with a $300 open sight slug gun vs a guy with a custom slug gun, customized turret scope.... up to each to decide what is best for them. It is hard to beat winchester longbeards in my...

What’s more valuable for holding/producing/hunting deer? Crops vs crp?

What is the limiting factor between you and your neighbors? If your neighbors already have all the cover, then you having more crops may be beneficial. If they have all the food, then you may benefit from cover. Most crp will allow cp12 food plots. But you need to ask for it specifically on your...

Simple GPS guidance for the foodplotter

I have an ag leader compass system. It pretty simple. Accurate enough without any subscription service. It will also generate maps, ab lines, calculate acres, etc. The only downside is that it is no longer sold. So look online at ebay for used models.

    No-Till/No-Herbicide: Is it possible?

Anything is possible. But it maybe difficult to achieve your goals. You have a huge seed bank just waiting to express itself as soon as you peel back the layers. The fire pealed back the first layer. Take small steps such as reduced tillage or reduced herbicide applications. Small steps. Grant...
