There are a couple similar to what you are describing on a farm I hunt. Same type location on a ridge between two deep valley's not far from the river. Lots of Indian activity in this area back in the day.
The landowner said years ago some natives stopped and asked to go look at them.
how large of an area is this? I think you could do a pretty good chunk in a weekend with a lopping shear and spray bottle of stump killer. Maybe cut and spray one every couple feet on a grid.
If it is dry at times you could push up an earthen dam a couple feet high and then cover it with concrete rip rap. My concern would be how fast it silts full if you get run off from crop ground. I have seen creeks the beaver dam up silt full in less than a year with a lot of run off from crop...
We have 18 inches on the ground now with freezing rain and another 6-8 inches coming today. I have been feeding corn since Christmas and in the last two weeks they have been hammering it. Feeding half a 5 gallon bucket every day, 10-15 bucks coming in every night and a bunch of does.
I think Bonker is right about the CJD in England being traced to butchering practices and consumption of brain and spinal tissue.
Personally I am going to keep butchering my own and not worry about eating it.
