We've got a lot of this at our place. Tons of old hardwoods and trees but lots of open areas that don't see as much action going into fall. We burnt off a few acres of old weeds and field grass this weekend and was thinking of planting switchgrass. Think it's still fine to broadcast...
We just burnt off a few acres of field grass this weekend. Do you think it's a little late still to plant switchgrass or just get it in before a good rain?
Down here right outside Winterset we have a huge limestone quarry. On one side of the woods theres beans and the other corn. I've watched them this season and it seems most nights are completely random in which field the 60-80 deer stroll out into. No real rhyme or reason to their madness...
Would it be worthwhile grunting or bleeting? We have little pressure around us. Got a nice vantage point at the top of the hill. Evening or morning food plot sits?

Saw 4 does and 2 bucks yesterday. Gave the pass to a 3 year old. Hearing some grunts this morning but nobody wanting to play. Had 4 does out in the brassicas eating.

Got those days off too. Should be prime time. Last year was absolutely bonkers those days. Most consider the 7th to be the best day of the year.

Went out Saturday and Sunday morning and it was dead quiet. Pulled cameras and there was TONS of dusk and night activity from the small guys and a couple mature. Went out last night and saw 3 big chonkers trotting fast and pushing some does. Good time to get out there.

Went out this morning. Dead for 2 hours over the brassicas and I'm thinking what the hell? Then I see an absolute brute 100 yards walking the fence line. Pushed off a small buck then trotted after a couple does not caring about my grunts. My heart is broken. The neighbor tagged out yesterday...
During the rut I'd say that's about right where I'm at. Does are busy being bred or hiding from aggressive males. Bucks are roaming looking for every piece of tail they can find. The rest of the year I see far more does than bucks.

Had the same issue last year. Bucks every 5 minutes during the rut but once cold weather hit I had maybe a couple does. I had no food...guy across the road half a mile away had over 100+ deer on his several plots that stayed there. I think once the cold hits it comes down to where they can...
Well I figure it's about that time to wind things up. The big n beasty turned out great. I did have to fill in after the first couple of weeks but other than that I've just let the rain due its thing. It did take a little extra seed because it was broadcasted. No nitrogen added but the...
I believe Midwest Whitetail just had a video on it. He planted too soon after using it and he had to go back and redo it. I know they usually say to wait a week or so after applying it

Sprayed and burnt. No till and planted 7/28 with hand spreader. Had some open spots I filled in a couple weeks later but it should fill in quite nicely.

Week 3, things are starting to fill in on the brassica plot. Rain really helped get thing germinating and growing. Clearing out an area to set some 6x6 to put up a box blind.

Been almost two weeks without any rain but stuff still looks pretty good. Went out before the storms this morning and reseeded some of the bare spots with the solo. Just burned and seeded. I'll toss on a little N in a few weeks but overall not too shabby.
