This morning me and my uncle went on the track, I only went about 100 more yards and there he laid. He fell down the ridge and died. He was double lunged. It about killed us both trying to pull him straight up the ridge. But all in all it ended well. Not my biggest buck, but I'm happy with him...
I didnt ask to be criticized about my decision to let him lay. I called a good friend of mine, that has literally has killed 100s of deer with a bow. He thought I made the right choice. I've pushed bucks before, and I've lost deer because I pushed them, that other wise woulda been laying their...
Not 100% sure on how much penetration. I pull 70 pounds, and shoot a fixed head. There's about 3 inches of Fresh powder on the ground from last night. So tracking should be good. Where I shot the deer, there wasnt much blood. But where he fell down and kicked there was a fair amount deeper...
Deer was quartering to me at 20 yards and I tucked it up tight to the shoulder and let it fly. Got part of the shoulder and heard a pop when the arrow struck. It stuck in him so no pass through. He ran 20 yards got wobbly and fell down and kicked for 20-25 seconds. Stood back up and Hobbled...
Yesterday. I Was on my way up a fence to go sit off Of the edge of a bedding area. Fence line isn't very thick. Of course I Jump a 4 year old 140-150 with 2 does off the fence line. Figures, I was only half way to my spot.
So far this wet weekend has been a bust for me, in NEIA. Just a few small bucks looking for does. Friday, I seen 10 does, and not 1 buck. Saturday, just fawns wandering the woods, and today just small bucks. Feels like the calm before the storm. What's everyone else seeing????
I've been hunting off. And on when I can and this weekend will be through the rain. I've seen 1 really nice 150 inch 10 so far. But not chasing does though. He was all puffed up. Last couple hunts I've seen some lone fawns wandering the woods. Been trying to hold off on my best spots. Last night...
Been working with our new 5 month old lab to retrieve sheds. He loves playing fetch. Today I put him in the shop 5 or 6 times. I'd go throw the shed I'm using, in random areas. And then we d go on a little walk in the general area. Doesn't take him long, to find it, I'm rewarding him when he...
I just planted my purple top turnips, Daikon radishes today. Hoping to get a bigger bulb. And taller plants than last year. Last year did it the first week of August.
I follow the hunting public, and the Duck Potato peaked my curiosity a little bit. Is anyone doing food plots of these??? And how did it work out??? I don't know a huge amount about the plant itself and what it requires. Does it have to be on the edge of a pond or water source?? Or can I grow it...
Well here's the deal, find the thickest, hilliest far away from the road spot as possible. Any of those zones you listed will work. I wouldn't rule out the zones close to the ol mississippi. Those hills are notorious for some bruiser bucks. I'd also get your expectations in check. The real giant...
Thanks for all the thoughts guys, he s just special to me. If he disappeared and never seen again, id be ok with it. Disappointed yes. But would still be ok. I've got pics of him for 3 years now, and his range keeps getting smaller, and he s been more visible, I think he s 6.5, he s got the gene...
This time of the year reminds me of a few years ago, I was out shed hunting in late january and had a big wide 8 pointer(the one I shot last year) just absolutely dogging a fawn. Has anyone else ever experienced this??? Maybe it's just that spot?? Herd Imbalance??? Any other thoughts???
