Unless I'm missing something I'm assuming you're just talking about a ladder stand intended to be used by 1 hunter.
Mobility isn't an issue. I set the stand on a known trail or pinch point and leave it there. There have been instances during past seasons when I've adjusted a stand location...
I hunt almost exclusively from ladder stands. I prefer them as they're easier to enter/exit and I think a lot safter than climbing sticks/pegs/screw-in steps.
I don't hunt anything shorter than 15'. My favorite stand is a 16' no-name I bought at Menard's several years back for $49.
I...
I was in the same boat last fall. My son is 8 and took his first deer with a 20 ga. last youth season. I wanted to get him a muzzy that he could use for future youth seasons and also late muzzy season during winter breaks. I looked at a lot of guns and ended up buying a Traditions Pursuit...
I know somebody on this forum will have the information I'm looking for.
At the Deer Classic this year was a guy that made plaques for all kinds of different taxidermy needs. He had some really unique looking setups for mounting a turkey fan. I believe he was from Wisconsin...his booth was...
I had the same issue when I put a QAD on my bow...was shooting Blazers and having contact issues. After much constipation I changed back to 4" Duravanes and am shooting tighter groups than I've ever shot in my life.
A few thoughts:
-As governor it would probably have been more appropriate for Branstad to hunt some of our public lands. Perhaps he'd have had the opportunity to run into a bunch of other hunters and try to make the best of a crowded hunt.
-It would be funny if the press could get a comment...
The Lorenz kit uses a rail system to transfer power from the rear PTO up to the front.
If your 4320 does have a mid PTO and especially a loader then you'll have your pick of several different brands of blowers.
I saw a setup recently that a guy had put together from a company called Lorenz. They make a pretty cool setup for bigger tractors. I have no idea if it works well but it's a start for you.
I have nothing of value to add to this thread, but wanted to thank Highmark for posting. There have been some awesome informational threads on the site this week and I'm glad I have been keeping up with my reading during a slow work week.
The rules say that you need to report your deer, so that's what we should all do. If you haven't shot a deer don't report one. It's ludicrous to think that filing a false report with the DNR is going to help anything.
This is part of the bigger problem with our governor's actions. The DNR...
@Progear....the DNR made recommendations THIS year to lower the amount of doe tags being sold. Gov. Branstad ignored the recommendation of our state deer bioligists and caved to the Iowa Farm Bureau to keep keep tags at their current levels.
After Branstad's moves over the past 12 months to...
The best gauge for deer population is to visit the DNR page that shows real time harvest statistics. As of today around 1:00 there have been a little over 66,000 deer reported.
As a general rule the past few years:
- by the last day of the first archery season (including youth and early...
Interesting topic.
Access to ground is tough. I'm very lucky to have some ground to hunt with my family and friends. It's not outstanding ground, we don't have food plots, very few hardwood stands, and we regularly have competition on the property borders from other hunters.
We have a...
A few things to consider:
1) You'll need food and water. Take some high calorie snacks in your pack and a couple bottles of water. Use the food breaks as a goal. Knowing you get a snack at say 11 and 2 gives you something to look forward to.
2) Try real hard not to break a sweat on the...
I always carry 3 or 4 of those orange cheese crackers with the peanut butter in the middle when I sit all day. Mostly because I forget to take food and have to find something at Casey's after I leave the house!
love this forum
Thanks for your responses, guys. Until I posted this thread I had just assumed I'd have him shooting pellets. Both of you mentioned Blackhorn 209 and I did some reading on that powder early this morning...glad it came up as I think that's what I'd like shot through this gun...
Forgive me, I'm very green when it comes to muzzleloaders. I've been doing my own research and handling some guns the past few weeks. I'm looking to purchase a gun for my son. He is currently 8 and just harvested his first deer during youth season with a 20 ga. He is hooked and wants his own...
That's awesome. Well deserved also. My youngest went to a camp Ironside put on this summer and I was thoroughly impressed with how he handled the kids and all that he was able to teach them in a short amount of time. Glad to see that he's also a stick and string guy!
As suggestd, I'd wait until closer to rut activity and then make the move. I have some stands set just like you mentioned here...outside of the action with a view that can pattern deer movement. I've killed my biggest bucks on Noe. 7 and Nov. 17th by hunting stands that were placed after Nov...
I'd say 3.5, grosses around 140 and nets 130, not a shooter.
He doesn't sport great mass or main beam length. I love the craggly tines and the double splits on the G2's. I'd love them even more of he could crack 150 next year.
