I have hunted public land in IN, IL, KS & IA extensively for 25 years. Big sample size. Legislators taking control away from the DNR in the first three of these states have spelled the ruin of the quality on public land in these. I bought an IL LL 12 years ago that I thought was a good...
Hotshott, I’m not a banking pro, but I’ve read that it is actually more costly for the states’ to handle funds via credit card charging & refunding, and no way around it. Thus this has slowly been going away in favor of nonrefundable fees.
As to all the various state point systems out there...
Boonervilleusa, AZ & NV are not even comparable if contemplating ground floor entry today. But who knows the state’s that devised the Ponzi scheme tag distribution systems are always throwing prior investors under the bus since their is no law governing their scams. They lie, cheat & steal at...
You used to, but not any more. Not with thousands of squared points ahead of you. This didn’t used to be the case. I drew 111-114 archery elk in 2007 with 6 points. Back then I calculated my odds at ~6%. But today single digit odds are out of the question. For a ground floor guy today that...
If those are NR points you should forget about the Pauns & do the Book Cliffs. I have 21 and still can’t draw Pauns. You will never overcome the point creep.
As for my plans, I’m at the mercy of about 40 apps in 10 states. I rarely have a clue where I’m going. But I’m trying hard to burn...
I could be wrong but I don't think there's much public land bluff type terrain in zone 8. I've actually been scoping out the 8 public for my next hunt (archery) and I think that hilly land is farther north. The public I've been seeing is right up against the river flood plain. Much looking...
I did a similar thing this year on Thanksgiving, but was not familiar with the buck. 180" class on public stopped broadside 30 yards and I never picked up my bow. Just froze after a month of passing on lesser bucks, just got used to it. I even had the spot he stopped at ranged at 30.5. Had...
I had this happen to me in Illinois 5 years ago. Basically the CO said they'd need video evidence to enforce Hunter harassment. If I’d had time to think about it I could have filmed it on my iPhone but it was too late.
So 1 is basically gun hunting on his one acre lot with the 320K house? I wonder if it’s legal to shoot within 200 yards if it’s his own house!? Haha. That would be a hell of a small hunt area!
Ohhhhh. I thought this thread was going to be about a new fake nonresident tag quota for Illinois, sponsored by some more corrupt crossgun special interest group paid off politicians.
Yes I did that three times this year. Sorry about that. What’s really frustrating is when you go back recreate shot and pinwheel six in a row in the road head target. [emoji45]
I ended up pulling my left hamstring for the 4th time in 2 weeks on the 28th. Had no choice but to slowly pack up and head home. It’s really sore. My spots are remote in steep terrain and I just could not see myself getting back there and enjoying a hunt.
Heading to China to visit my wife...
Ya I got a NR Iowa tag. Will stick with plan but try a different Public parcel. I have one saved nobody has been hunting. Rough to get in there. Good private crops surrounding. But a great connecting timber funnel back there.
The woods have gone dead the last three days. I’m taking Monday off, and was going to hunt the last three days 11/28, 29, 30 but curious if it’s even worth it.
The problem came when I made complete misses at two wide open bucks. 30 & 40 yards stopped no wind comfortable on my left side. Good position. Had no explanation. I went twice for long practice sessions wearing all my cold weather gear. Insulated coveralls, neck warmer, sock hat, gloves. Put...
Had an encounter with the buck of a lifetime yesterday on public land. I totally choked. He came out of the bedding area via the saddle I was hunting, following three does, til he stopped broadside next to a log I'd yardage checked ten times previously at 30 yards. Not a huge shooting window...
My last 3 hunts have been my best of the season since I started October 27th. Lots of active cruising mature bucks. Seen my first in person buck fight, 60 yards from my stand. Heard first buck roar. Very cool. So glad I can hunt until the gun opener.
