Your scent control methods, thoughts or list?

Yes and I thought it spooked the deer.....of course could have been anything, but in my head at the time it was it that caused it.

Taking more gambles on the wind you could call it, yes...still do all the scent control but dont worry quite so much about the wind.

Your scent control methods, thoughts or list?

Wash clothes to start season in unscented detergent, hang out to dry, keep in a big Rubbermaid tub outside with leaves etc in it. We keep everything we take to the stand in this same tub. Shower before I go hunting with unscented soap. Get dressed outside (very cold sometimes!) Wear rubber...

Cull bucks?? To cull or not to cull?

Original post, Good bucks for bologna! Second set of pictures I think the first one needs to live a couple years, shows potential.

% of old bucks that make BC....

I feel like owning one large tract probably gives you more of a chance as you have more control of harvest/management etc., especially when its 750 acres or so. Understanding there are variables like EHD or you may lose them at times to neighbors, but typically we always have at least a couple...

Youth Hunter Tactics, goals, ideas, etc???

Our normal rule at our place is any kid we have hunt, we let them shoot what they want, but once they have shot a buck, then going forward they typically are on the same page as the rest of us, shooters only:)

Planted brassicas in 3 plots the last 2 weeks. Waiting for another 2-3 weeks to plant Rye Grain and clover in 3 more plots. Broadcasting everything into dead (some mowed but all dead) vegetation/old sorghum, buckwheat etc..... did not till anything this fall. Have also added radishes to...

Old Field Management - Fescue Elimination

you shouldn't have to at that point, just mow a couple times the first season.

Old Field Management - Fescue Elimination

I would mow it in August, and then once it greens back up to about 5" tall , spray it with GLY and 2-4D if needed, then you can go back spray it again in October . Then frost seed in February or March. Then next summer you likely will have to mow it again once or twice. Should have a...

    Milo

Sure can, as I spray it then broadcast it, that will probably knock the old stocks down enough that it should be good to go. Thanks for the replies!

    Milo

Speaking of this, I had a 1 acre plot like this last year and have left it since, so now it is old milo stocks(fairly heavy yet) with many beneficial weeds etc. for pheasants. I assume it worked for nesting and brooding this summer as I saw a hatch close to it. It looked so good this spring...

Old Field Management - Fescue Elimination

spray the field with gly or cleth after a couple of good frosts. This from above works the best IMO. I had a field of brome with some natives in it(from a previous mostly failed seeding) and sprayed it in early November last fall with GLY, after some frosts, and the brome is now gone and I...

Mount Hanging - “Full Range Hanging Systems”

Cool, but not sure he really saved much space. Before he put that up, he had 3 mounts with tons of space between, and probably could have put 4 up anyway? Neat how you can turn them though.

    4 Point Disappointment

throwing in my 2 cents on the raccoons, YES, they damage way more corn than deer do in my area as well, and we have very good deer numbers on my farms.
