Anyone see deer hammer locus seed pods? I have had a couple tell me the deer love them, but I have a camera on a pile of them that fell on the edge of my field and haven't seen them eat a single one.
I posted pics of my setup last year using air to keep a spot open. This year I buried a 275 gallon IBC tote and am going to put the pex in the bottom and see if it will keep it from freezing. And see if the bubbling scares the deer away. ANother thought was solar power to a tank heater in the...
Great looking buck.
Edited side note. Screw Blue although glad they beat Bama. Probably rather them beat Washington also, but don't like all the cheating they did. Especially when Iowa athletes lose their careers over a $25 dollar bet on womens basketball. Harbaugh can openly get busted for...
Expanding on that. My brother in law has 90 acres(He farms a lot more ground, but this post is regarding a specific 90 acre chunk). The 90 consists of 10 acres of timber and also one draw that held a few pheasant. The rest is organically farmed. He bulldozed the draw this year, and keeps talking...
Grew up hunting pheasants every weekend with my dad and brother. I would also run off the school bus and get 30 minutes or so in of hunting the pheasants by myself for a few years. Pheasant hunting rivals bow hunting for me. I stopped for years because of the numbers but went 3 times this year...
Hope that bad boy is big enough. Just from that pic 1 size bigger may be good. Give it a test run and you will know what I'm talking about once sitting in a tree stand trying to zip your feet in. Especially if wearing much for a jacket underneath. I'm not an expert by far and that may be...
I think you will love it. I literally wear my tennis shoes if it's 30 degrees out. Sure makes an easy walk to the stand. If under 30 I wear light hiking boots and wool socks but could just do shoes if not a long hunt. Most of the time I don't even zip my feet shut because it's easier to move...
An old trick is to get a cheap space blanket and use your insole to cut out a template from the blanket it and put in your boot. I haven't personally done it but have read some people swear by it. I personally bought the Iwom "bunny Suit". I can wear tennis shoes down to at least 20 degrees.
I didn't hunt in Southern Iowa besides the opening Saturday. My brother said the Davis County crew didn't come back the second weekend so he wasn't able to ask them. Neither of us knew their names or numbers.
So are you saying EHD hit the area with multiple ponds worse than the area with few ponds? That seems like it should be the opposite but I'm not well versed on EHD. I will say we saw a lot of deer this shotgun season. Found a couple of dead ones is all.

This possibly changes my plans for next summer. I have a few acres of old CRP I want to move into SG. Was planning on Spring but Summer would be easier for me to get some time in.
Bingo! The small tracts each have 2 or 3 hunters taking their limits. What once was 400 Acres taking 2-3 bucks and several does is now 5-10 parcels with a at least a dozen bucks and hard to say how many does taken. We own a 30 acre chunk that fits what you're saying. The guy that bought 20...
Hunted South of Iowa City and deer numbers were really good. Didn't come across any dead deer. Also hunted some in Monroe county without finding any dead. However a guy in our group from Davis County said a farmer friend of his found dozens of dead deer. I've also heard some in Monroe found a...
How far gone can a carcass be and still get tested? I was pheasant hunting and came a across a couple of dead deer. One was a pretty nice buck but both have been dead long enough to be ravaged.
