I have a permission property a good friend of mine owns. I’ve hunted out there for over 10 years. I still call or text him every time I hope to come out. He always says yes, and he always tells me how much he appreciates me asking, even though I know the answer.
I guess what I’m getting at is...
I shot a doe this morning….noticed she had a front hoof and back hoof that were kinda “wonky”. I thought I’ve heard EHD can cause hoof deformities, is that true? I believe 3 years ago, EHD hit the farm here pretty hard as I found 11 dead deer on 130 acres.
It was a fun day with almost too nice of weather. With a little better shooting we may have been able to get our limit. But to get almost 2 birds apiece in warm weather was still pretty good. And the best part is we still have other places to go another day!
Team 4, I finally put a little bit of meat in the freezer with this doe. Shot last night. Curtis saw her in all her tiny glory….she shouldn’t have blown at me.
The trend of minimal rut activity at the farm I hunt continued this year. For whatever reason after the first week of November the deer seem to disappear. September and October lots of deer sightings, November 5 saw my target buck, November 11….saw nothing. Hopefully the cold weather pushes them...
I’m hunting this weekend and it’s going to be rainy. How much does the rain affect your scent dispersal. I have a blind I can sit in, but with east south east winds, it would be less then ideal. Being relatively dry is a huge perk, but I don’t want to f everything up with bad winds. Just curious...
Congrats on the buck! Unfortunately, I can not get out and enjoy this cold front. Wifey is out of town for work so I’m a single dad till Thursday. Just in time to catch the 70° temps! Lol!
This is a 6 pointer I killed in 2015 I believe. He was an old bully. Year before I shot him, I passed on him repeatedly with my bow. Then in 2015 he was a ghost. Opening day of gun 1, he walked by me at 35 yards. I’ve never been more proud of a buck. I believe it scored 118” and won the award...
I replanted my brassicas on august 14, have gotten regular rains since and they look great so far, our 2 acres of beans look great minus what the neighbors cows have eaten, and we just got our new plot of rye planted this weekend.
Hard to beat a top water weedless frog for summertime bass. Cast it into the weeds, twitch twitch pause retrieve. And be ready, don’t set the hook when they blow up on it, it’s tough, but wait till you feel the weight, and give it the berries.
