    Thorny Locust Removal

Is this recommended to do anytime of year, or only during dormancy in the winter?

    Thorny Locust Removal

I have a quite a few thorny locust. From my research killing them isnt as simple as just cutting them down. Seems like I need to cut and treat the stump. What about girdling them? I couldn't find anything about that. Or anyone have good luck with just cutting them down? Anything less than 10...

    Tree Tube Options

Im going to order from Mike Hamilton with Timber Management, seems to be a really good price from what I have found. Think getting a dibble/planting bar is worth it or a shovel will do just fine? Im planting bare root seedlings from the state nursery.

    Tree Tube Options

Thank you Skip. You are right. Better to just pony up and do it right the first time.

    Tree Tube Options

I just ordered 75 swamp white oak and 25 wild plum from the state nursery. I'm a little sticker shocked at the price of tubing the oaks. -I've read that plum dont need to be tubed. Thoughts on that? -Anyone have experience with using corrugated tube versus a tree tube? Im sure tubing will...

    Switchgrass

I might try and establish some switch grass strips to border my timber/ag field lines. I've watched lots of videos and read through here a good bit. Honestly feeling overwhelmed having no experience with this and so many do's and don'ts. I've spent hours watch youtube videos and reading on this...

    Deer Classic

I didnt got this year. But I really enjoy going, minus the insane crowd at times. Yep, more and more realtor booths, unfortuantely fewer and fewer deer and sheds brough in each year. My favorite part is seeing all the deer and sheds brought in, unfortunately it seems to keep shrinking.

    Who is shed hunting?!

Im at 35 on the year. Its not been easy, usually just coming up with 1 or 2 each time out. A couple weekend days I've hiked over 10 miles and came up empty. Few reasons...1. fewer deer than usual. 2. More people than ever shed hunting 3. Mild winter has the deer spread out.

Sheds still hanging on! % left?

A few still holding on cams. Last weekend out shed hunting some public I bumped a group of deer. There was a half rack and a full rack and they actually started to spar a little bit and I was eagerly watching thinking I was going to get to see the half rack get his one side popped off, but nope.

OFFENSE!! 2 Bills to support!! SF 293 & SF 247 EMAIL IN!!! What a great change!!!!

I dont think ive chimed in yet on this thread, been following along though. I'm in favor of the bill as proposed. As little as two acres getting a LOT tag is crazy to me. Its been repeated by others, "what is best for the resource?" I dont think people shooting up to three bucks a year because...

    Hounds

I've seen it posted on here a few times. Coyote dogs or rabbit dogs etc. Ive seen some people wont stand for it and others say no big deal. Ive had trail cam pics the past couple years a couple times. It was always this time of year after the deer seasons. My thoughts was not to big of deal I...

    Osage orange trees

My farm sounds just like yours. It basically consists of locust, hedge/osage orange, cedars, elm, hackberry, walnut, and little bit of shingle oak, box elder, and cherry mixed in. The brush on ground level is thick with buck brush/coral berry, multi flora rose and honey suckle. Ive been...

    Farm Contract Recommendations

I have 30 acres tillable rented out. I am far from an expert and Im sure am missing/doing things wrong or could be better. I just had a lawyer write up an agreement with the things I wished for. Its pretty simple. I just made sure to include things like: I maintain the hunting rights, no cutting...

URGENT + EASY + TIME - THURSDAY, Capital, 2 bad bills!!!!

Ive never seen Trophy Bucks of Iowa take a stance on anything. They have such a following on social media, what appears to me to be way more than IBA and ISC. Their page can get a lot of engagement when they will post topic, but they remain neutral. They will post a topic or news on something...

Trying to Locate a Pole Barn Builder in Southern Iowa

This sounds like a great price, especially with concrete floor and electric. How much more would it cost you think to have a small living quarters built inside it? Have any pictures of your building?
