Gotta admit. Those posting on this site are a breath of fresh air.
Good thought/ discussing on nots always good for " me" but the whole picture for the future.
Deer will hammer pumpkins/ squash.
Started planting the in 09 just for a garden novelty but quickly realized the deer would not leave them alone. Figgered I'd try them as a stand alone foodplot. Glad I did as they have become my favorite mid/ late season foodplot plantings.
Started urging Bill...
That's weird jk5.
Can't think I've ever seen where the deer have not hammered the leaves.
Well, yeah I have. First year I delved in to brassicas, I tried a grassy area that I burned with gly, burned with fire once it dried down, spread the seed by broadcasting it but added no fertilizer.
Got a...
Westwind. I've always tried for July 25th but here on out, for turnips, I'm gonna start about Aug 5th, radishes maybe August 15th. Granted, I'll be watching the forecast for good rains. That's SO key with brassicas.
Our ph here runs about 7.5. 100 miles south from Canada and right on the Mn/...
I've been growing turnips/ radishes for bout 15 years.
Hit/ miss whether they eat the bulbs. More often then not they leave them alone.
One thing I (think) I've noticed is, if we have a hard freeze and it stays real cold, they will eat the bulbs better.
If we get a hard freeze and then a long...
Putting up a man made fence to direct deer movement just plain ass sucks in my opinion. Just how far are we " hunters" gonna go?
Zero hunting/ woodsmanship involved. Wait for the right wind and go sit in the (funnel).
Not one bit sorry for venting my opinion on this topic and will lose all...
I wouldn't know. I hinge cut in bedding areas and I don't hunt in them.
Pure n simple, putting up a fence where deer HAVE to go to a certain spot to get through is BULLSHIT!.
Anybody can do that.
Be like draining a lake down to a small pond and thinking you are an awesome fisherman
But...
Spent the first 20 years party hunting in Mn (deer drives).
Would hate to not have those memories.
Up untill bout 20 years ago, we really did not need permission, nobody cared. We'd walk miles n miles of riverbottoms n crp fields.
The " Big Buck" craze changed that. I'm actually sad that...
:)Skip, or anybody else, how far south does BE grow?
Kinda strange how I stumbled into the so called " management " thingy.
Got this piece of riverbottom in about 2009.
Never had read or heard about anything to do with tsi/ fsi. Heck, didn't even have a computer then.
We had a super brutal...
When I hinge cut an area, I don't do it for the purpose of keeping the tree alive, just for structure.
I did an area about 2 acres last winter. Mostly boxelder, basswood and small elm. I think the minute I shut off the chainsaw, the deer flocked in and started browsing on the tops.
Have not been...
Heck, I'm to the point I'd like to see all northern tier states end deer season on Dec 15th.
Just so I don't have to sift through how many hours of youtube channels watching guys sitting in blinds overlooking an open foodsource while yaking about how hard the've " hunted".
That being said...
