Iowa ranks at the bottom for OB/GYNs and psychiatrists per capita. We are one of the few states with a disproportionately rising rate of cancer and infant mortality. Most of the district I'm referring to is a maternity health desert meaning there is no where close to deliver babies. Our...
Appreciate the response and your engagement in the issues facing our country. Almost all of your listed issues are federal policy issues that impact states. The state issues you speak of (respect for farmers, tax cuts) I'm not seeing where I'm at
I always find it funny this is often the first question people ask. She could literally be the same person but put an "R" behind her name and all of the sudden people support her and listen. Maybe that says more about the other person than it does the candidate (goes for each party affiliation)...
Without trail cameras how am I supposed to know which deer is mine? How can I prove to people I have a ton of history with a deer I shot?
All jokes aside I am a bit indifferent to this topic at this point. Sure, I love trail cameras and to me the biggest disadvantage for hunters is not being...
Good points. I liked Haley better than Trump because I felt she would give Republicans a better chance to get Biden out of office. You're not wrong about politicians making lots of money from being in office and Haley very well could have been controlled in office. Listening to RFK talking about...
I also hate the 2 party system because imo it's led to the division of this country. You're either with us or against us and neither side has any incentive to work together anymore. Each side is controlled by their big money supporters and only look after their interests while the average people...
Got to love how ambiguous the laws read. I've even had conservation officers interpret the same law differently. We might need clarification on the last statement about the hunter being done carrying a gun. I have been told by the Des Moines office and conservation officers that even walking by...
I've debated posting this on the forum, and if it is not allowed, the admin can certainly remove the post. To warn everyone, it will be a somewhat long post but one I feel is important. I repeatedly hear the theme of going on the offensive instead of playing defense. I wonder, instead of...
It was a great event. My wife and I both enjoyed it and hopefully there will be even more people there next year. With groups like this I think it will make it much harder for special interests to ruin this state although it won't stop them from trying. Thanks to all for putting on this great...
I actually know one of the representatives who is working on this legislation as he is a childhood friend of my brother. Like any legislation it changes a million times before it reaches the end funnel so the final bill is to be determined. I grew up in N. Wisconsin and I know several people...
I think the answer may vary slightly depending on what we're trying to benefit. If it's hunter retention/recruitment then it should be about increasing numbers and getting hunters seeing more deer. In this scenario I feel lowering anterless quotas is the easy low hanging fruit. In terms of...
Reading through all the posts and watching some video podcasts I think it's time hunters everywhere need to re-evaluate doe harvest. I'm not saying don't shoot any does as we all know there are pockets of high deer density that need does shot but overall we need to be cutting back doe harvest...
I haven't read all the responses but I will give some experience I've had. I will also state I don't think age matters much in terms of being able to smell you but rather their experiences may have them more reactive to the scent. I was doing an urban doe hunt about 10 yrs ago and I had sprayed...
I would say numbers will be down. I had a very tough archery season and my brothers and I did not see as many deer as normal in gun season. Others I have talked to also seemed to have seen less deer but many had differences in the reasons.
I agree with Skip above. Why post the video and location? Whenever someone does that immediately there are people trying to find that deer and the chances of it being poached skyrocket. If I post a video like that you can be assured the deer is dead and no location will be given.
As I have wrote in past threads, I mainly hunt public (95%) in SC IA and I have been seeing a decline in deer numbers for the past 5-10yrs. Big groups of Amish and others push a lot of these pieces every gun season and usually are not selective in what they shoot. I will not shoot a doe unless...
It's been a tough season for me so far. Lots of deer but nothing within my comfortable range that I wanted to shoot. I know lots of guys have success in late November but my streak of not shooting a big buck after the first week of November is unfortunately still intact. I don't expect a flurry...
