    special season passes

People keep questioning the validity of the reporting system, but it's simply one of many tools the DNR uses to help manage the herd. While it will never be 100% accurate, it still gives them a much better picture of the harvest than previous guesstimates. Like JNRbronc said earlier: <div...

    favorite muzzleloader load

100 grains Pyrodex pellets, 295 grain Powerbelt polymer tip (aerotip), winchester 209 primer. Have gotten excellent results so I've never even tried 150 grains.

    Special Season Reality......

I posted this on the original "Special season" thread and One Cam said basically the same thing. It's not about $$$ or protecting your own season at this point, it's about harvest numbers. If the insurance lobby sees harvest numbers are down, they're going to be pushing the legislature to do...

    Quotable Taxidermist for Hooters Magazine

At work, I get a number of emails every day from Profnet, a service that puts media people in contact with experts in various fields. Media people submit requests and Profnet sends it out to PR and academics. Here's one that came today that's a big opportunity for one of our "resident"...

    special season

Like it or not, the bottom line is most of the deer harvested are taken during the shotgun seasons. With the weather the past two weekends, that harvest hasn't taken place. I'd personally rather see a special season to deal with the situation now, rather than have the insurance lobby look at the...

    Sighting in slug guns

No worse than feeding a bunch of 3" turkey loads through to find out which pattern best!

    Lost one

Were you shooting a mechanical? Possible only one blade opened, hence blood on one side, though it would seem a spinning arrow would have more blood on it.

    ***Blair Witch Project!!!***

Back in 1981, I went bowhunting up in the Loess Hills east of Onawa (my home town) on a night with a full moon. Hiked about a mile and a half to a ridge and stayed til dark. Yotes started howling and it was extra spooky because I'd just seen ... American Werewolf in London! To make matters...

    Glasses or contacts???

I wear glasses most of the time since I still have to wear reading glasses with contacts and it's a hassle. But I wear contacts for hunting if at all possible. No fogging and my peripheral vision is so much better. (But I keep the reading glasses handy to fill out the tag!)

    ISU Football Practice

[ QUOTE ] I love how these Hawkeye fans get beat and still manage to talk trash. The Cyclones aren't a great team this year, we'll deal with it. Maybe the Hawk fans should watch that game tape and realize that they are not that great either and save the trash for another year. [/ QUOTE ]...

    Dan on TV...

I missed MOR enough that I finally broke down and added the Outdoor Channel to our DISH package. Costs $1.99 a month and you can do it right on the screen. I prefer MOR's show line-up but at least I can still get my hunting show fix.

    Five-bearded tom

Had to share a photo of a buddy's bird from this year's Kansas trip. I didn't get to go because of a flood (sump pump failed) the day we were going to leave. Shortest of the beards still measured 7"+ and the bird ranked #9 on the all-time Kansas list. (Almost 23 lbs, 1 1/4" spurs, 48"+ of beard.)

    Turkey Jerky?

Muddy, I usually bone out the thighs (my buddies usually give me the thighs from their birds as well) and grind it up. Then mix it up with cure and seasoning (usually Cajun from Nesco) and squeeze it through a jerky shooter and dry it in a 180 degree oven for about 6 hours or so. The breast...
