    Apple/Pear Trees

Not sure on rootstock. I ordered both enterprise and liberty from Jung seed in Wis. Doesn't list that on the website. I'm a rookie, so I didn't look into which before hand. The ones that died were semi-dwarf.

    Apple/Pear Trees

Thanks Skip. This is on the far north end of a 1 acre foodplot I cleared in the middle of timber. Lots of clay. Maybe that isn't helping. I added topsoil, but who knows. I only have 5 trees, so I baby them. Spray for fungus and bugs. I have wood mulch on all of them. Painted trunks...

    Apple/Pear Trees

I think I'll move the location some. Could be contaminent in the soil that I'm not aware of. I looked and there is a walnut tree maybe 60 feet from this. It is about 8 inch in diameter, so didn't think that would have killed 3 trees, but maybe?

    Apple/Pear Trees

Very funny, but probably true. LOL I don't think it is a water issue. I kind of baby these things. I even made a rainwater collection tank and give them a drink during dry times. The spot that 3 trees have died, I even bought bags of topsoil for the hole. Gave fertilizer and watered...

    Apple/Pear Trees

Question for the apple tree experts. I have a spot where another (#3) bareroot apple tree died after winter. This spot just seems bad. Have another tree that was going on year 4 that didn't make it out of winter (thought it would as it is my tallest). My question is, should I move...

    Bridges

I would think you would want to plan for an enormous amount of water and put in enough culvert to handle that. Then you basically have a road/drive across it and they should start using it, I would think.

    Bridges

Could you do a culvert type of bridge? Single huge tube or several big ones and add dirt over top to somehat fill in the depth? Not sure how deep the ravine is but would be similar to a "pond dam" but would openly just let water flow through, but having dirt on top would be a road or travel...

HF 2057, taking of nuisance animals

Turkeys is why I hope this passes. I would love to knock them back some in the early spring to keep turkey nests a little better off.

    Apple/Pear Trees

Right. They would be fruiting, but I'm wondering if they still will due to me pruning the crap out of them. I started using your fertilizing method earlier in this thread. Should see some good results.

    Apple/Pear Trees

Dumb apple tree question. I have several Enterprise and Liberty trees that are entering year 4. I pruned them again over winter (3 months ago) so they are getting horizontal branch structure to some extent. Will the trees fruit this year, or not due to pruning? Just curious. Not a big...

These kinda things keep me going

My own kids have done this to me. Honestly don't really care if I shoot something if my kids score.

    Sheds

I just got pics 2 days ago of about a 130 inch 8 still with both sides attached. Being honest, I rarely find sheds, but guess this year that could be part of it. Amazing seeing them holding this late.

    Hand Seeder?

This is what I use. Works great for small stuff like clover. Doesn't hold a lot, but I only have about 2/3 of an acre to do.

    Timber Stand Improvment

Thanks for sharing this. Keeps giving me ideas for my place. I have several spots that are "done" and several more that I need to hit. I do think it is helping hold more deer, helps thicken up my mature timber so you can't see as far, and is giving more food with new growth and what I'm...

LIME YOUR PLOTS- critical- here’s why…

My last soil test showed around 6.5. Just put down 800lbs of pel lime yesterday on top of the snow. Worked out nice. I do pel lime as my plot is just under an acre and getting an ag lime spreader up to it in the timber wouildn't be easy or cheap. Good feeling knowing that is done. I'm...

SF 2011 Youth Season Deer Tag Sales

I don't see any harm in this one. I've missed getting one for my oldest years back. Had to buy him a regular tag, but would have been nice to pick up the youth tag after youth season.

Love to see that. My electronic zombie loves going hunting with me, which is a great break from all the "other" crap. Go Clones!!

Nice work and congrats. My timber has some crazy blow-downs right now, so I'm sure your trek out was fun.

    2021- the BIZARRE Year!!!!

I had the same thing going on. I have a lot of cams out. Only 2 different 3 year olds that frequented my place. Neighbors confirmed the same with the same deer. Last year I had 4 mature bucks and a handful of 3 year olds. Nothing in the neighborhood really changed for pressure. We were...
