Thanks for the info Shovelbuck...I was hoping you'd have some input on this post! :way: I know a bowyer that makes both so will definitely see him and try to shoot some of each. I plan on doing more research but know that practice, practice, practice is the key.
...is the question. Any pros/cons to each one? The plan is to use primarly for whitetails with the occassional neighborhood rabbit at risk.:D I shoot a compound today and thinking about making a switch to hunt simpler. No experience shooting either one yet. Thanks for the input.
Same here...switched the blade around and worked fine. I've touched up the blade with some emery paper but nothing to agressive. Hopefully the new blade and screens work better for you. If not, maybe you can exchange it for a different model.
Great thread. I've learned a lot of good tips over the years from this site and continue to do so.
Best new "gear" of the year for me was Emergen-C as recommended by Skully. Drink this stuff when you feel a cold coming on and it almost vanishes. Definitely helped in more comfortable hunts...
Remington 100 gr core-lok worked well for WY antelope. They should work well on deer too. If shooting coyotes, i'm guessing a lighter weight would work better.
1/3 HP No. 8 electric meat grinder..Cabelas brand...$175 + shipping if outside Des Moines metro area. Grinder in excellent condition just upgraded to a larger model last week. Includes 2 screens and sausage stuffer attachments that have never been used.
PM for more info.
Agree with nanny that they are good heads. Mine group really well out to 60 yards just like the field points. I carried them in the quiver last year but always had a jakhammer on the rest. I hope to get some first hand entry/exit wound experience this year if one comes in range.
I'll throw another one in the mix...On Your Own Adventures. I caught a few shows late last year and have the dvr set up to catch them all this year. Most of the shows are on western big game on public land. They did an IA shotgun hunt last year but I haven't seen that one. I like the fact that...
Agree with others that the best advice is to look through several. I was looking for spotters in the same price range last year and ended up with the vortex nomad. I used it out west some last year and while it performed well, it's not the same as the top end glass. But, it performs for what I...
SaskGuy - I have the Vortex fury 10 x 42 and my brother has the Nikon monarchs 10 x 42. The first year I bought the Vortex I did a lot of comparisons to the monarchs to see if I had made the right decision on the purchase. I couldn't tell any difference between the two but I'm no optics expert...
Another vote for the wind shear products. I wear a microfleece turtleneck over my UA on almost every hunt. I then layer on a wind shear berber fleece vest when it's colder. This keeps me warm on most hunts in November. If it's really cold, I'll layer on a wool sweater and/or a Grey Wolf Woolens...
Thanks for all the tips and advice. I gave it a try today and it took a lot longer than I expected. I'm having a hard time getting everything out of the nasal cavity. Perhaps a high pressure sprayer would work better than my knife. :) Anyway, it's good to get some experience so next time will...
I'm going to give it a go this weekend and try to boil some deer skulls. The heads are prepped and ready for a european mount. I've had a few done before with beetles and really like how they've turned out, but I'm trying something different. I know that boiling isn't recommended and that the...
Like others have said, 10 x 42 are a good bet for all around binos. I have the Vortex Fury and my brother has the Nikon Monarchs. I can't tell much difference between the two and the price is about the same.
I started using the glass quite a bit the past few years and can't imagine being out...
