I hunt nearly exclusively public land for deer in Iowa. I try to find the less pressured areas and I'm not afraid of a good hike. I can usually get my tags filled and maybe see 1-2 decent bucks per year. My home area is a really pressured part of Iowa with a dense population - but I still...
I still have all of this .308 reloading components. If interested - PM me and we can work a deal. I no longer reload for 308 so I'd like to move all of this.
It costs money to own land. I would never personally lease because I'd rather spend it on out of state hunts. But, like its been said already- some just want something for nothing. In this case its access for hunting. My in laws own a couple hundred acres in NE I A and no longer grant free...

I've actually had really good luck on the SST's out of rifles. Two antelope in Wyoming and neither one moved and a few deer in Southern Iowa. Maybe they are different from muzzleloaders but I found them effective.
As I close the books on the 2014 late muzzy season - I'm going to switch to loose powder for next year. What do you all use for a measuring device? Would like something that's easy to pour into the muzzle.
Only bullet I've ever used is the powerbelt. I've used both the 245gr aerotip and the 295gr power belt. Deer have either dropped in their tracks or gone less than 150y. Blood trails have been sufficient if I hit them well.
Seems like most issues with the bullets are actually shot placement...
If we as hunters want to place blame, really it falls on us. We pulled the trigger and harvested all the deer. Regardless of how laws were changed to allow us to harvest more deer, we still shot them.
Allowing crossbows during archery season has nothing to do with more hunters. That's just a self serving interest to keep more of the pie to ourselves. The argument is more definition of archery and if they fit. Compound hunting is not an art, it's a science.
If we are going to push against cross bows then I think that archery season should only be done with bows with no cams or sights. That's true archery.
Much easier to shoot a compound than lug a crossbow. Technology has taken over. I bet most guys couldn't hit a target at 10y without...
As long as you can agree on principals ahead of time and draw it in writing that helps. But for all the reasons mentioned it could get messy very easily.
