It will be something you will remember forever, no doubt. Also would like to add to bring good binocs and range finder. Don't skimp on your glass. Also would be good to have a good pack to be able to get your meat out.
I know this is an older thread and we have plenty of heated threads on the very same topic but I just don't think the only issue is that the DNR needs to be able to make the quota changes themselves. THey were the ones who initially recommended the numbers be decreased, allowed antler less tags...
I'm told a bugling elk in your face is a pretty exciting hunting opportunity. I went out west in 2012 for antelope with a rifle, so totally different type of hunting.
I will say:
1) Get a good GPS unit and hunt area chip. The game warden won't care if you don't know where you are, ignorance...
Final prices:
Kimber w/ mags and Holsters: $850 OBO
Remington 700 package: $550 OBO
I have some ammo that can go with each that we can negotiate on. I think I have 600 rounds of ball ammo for the .45 1911 and close to 100 rounds of Superformance 95gr SST for the .243. Those of you wanting...
Always used this same method cept I use a different lube for the barrel. I was taught this many years ago by my grandpa (back before in lines were around). It's never failed me.
I shoot the original creed when it first came and it was smooth and dead in the hand. I haven't had a chance to shoot the XS but I imagine it's the same just in a smaller package. I've always been a fan of Mathews bows since I'm a 'smooth draw cycle' sort of guy. I just can't get myself to...
These threads just never end. Responses are just re-worded saying the same thing, then people get upset and the personal attacks start. At that point, the thread goes downhill fast and any useful information is lost in the midst of name calling. Some people think numbers are good (in their...
Working on finishing our basement, so any tax return $ will go towards that. Luckily for me, part of that process is upgrading the gun safe for future kids. I am thinking about having it recessed into the wall.
Part of the state land situation depends on where in the state the land is. If it's close to a large metro area, it gets hunted hard. Looking at the stats, we have 3X as many bow hunters as we did in the mid 1990's. I know a few guys in my area that were shooting 4+ does a year off public, so...
I know in WY that some of the reduced price doe tags for various species are valid on private land only. Like mentioned, some states have bow only areas.
I think for the smaller areas, they should be bow only.
There's a bunch of threads about deer #'s and herd management lately. I feel a lot of that is specific to private land. I know there's a bunch of us (including me) who hunt primarily public land.
What can/ should be done to increase deer #'s on public land(s)? I'd like to see the antler less...
I won't be planning around a child birth for hunting reasons. I love to hunt, but if my child were born during that month, I'd be perfectly happy doing whatever it is they want to do for their birthday. Just part of being a parent.
I think there is some truth to the statement that 'some hunters do not care'. I don't know if it's truly the case that they don't care about the deer population being lower but they aren't doing anything to make it better (i.e. keep shooting does, not writing their legislature, etc). But I still...
I'd rather spend my time talking to the legislature or DNR than I would fellow forum members. Nothing against anyone here a we're all great people but that debate doesn't go anywhere. Talking to the two former groups could actually lead to change.
I still don't understand why people can't just leave the stands and cameras alone. The golden rule applies here...'do unto others how you would want done to yourself'. So anytime I would ever think about taking a cam or stand...I think how would I feel? Lucky for me, I've had a few of each...
