    4th season fun

Decided to use up some comp time from snow season and hit the woods with the turkey whisperer himself, Mr. Walker. Headed out bright and early this morning, got to our blind and had at least a couple of birds gobbling fairly close. As the sun rose we could tell one was on the ground and he was...

    New respect for turkeys

I’m with Curtis on this. I have no problem with fall turkey seasons, but if the population is in decline, why are we shooting hens in the fall?

    CW’s 2025 Spring Turkey Season (Updated 5/3)

You left out the part where I said you’re as handsome as you are good at turkey hunting. I always look forward to our adventures, even if they aren’t productive they’re always good for a lot of laughs.

    Opening morning for me bird

    Opening morning for me bird

Like a chump, I worked yesterday partly to avoid the windy conditions and partly because I wanted to wrap up a big seeding project at work before the board of regents meeting at the new building next week. So today was opening day for me. Curtis and I hoofed it back deep into some public land...

    Luke’s 1st bird

Had the pleasure of taking my son’s younger brother on his first turkey hunt this morning. Got in early on some public, had birds hammering close. One read the script and came straight to the decoys. Luke somewhat botched a 15 yard shot…2 more shots and a 300 yards chase down and choke out...

    Fun day at the farm

That one was a bummer for sure. Had super high hopes for him…not sure exactly how old, I guessed 2 or 3 based on trail cam pics.

    Spring beaver trapping

Pelts have dropped by almost 50% this year unfortunately. I do save and sell the castors too, which also are low currently. Just a few years ago, castors were $60 per pound, now it’s around $20.

    Spring beaver trapping

I travel further than I probably should to trap them. It’s one of my favorite things to do.
