    What has hunting become???

I’m an equal opportunity poster on social media. Doe or buck, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m a proud hunter and I like to share my kills….most of which are does.

    Brassicas

Had waterhemp and marestail bad at the farm. It was taller then I’d like when we sprayed it…2 pints per acre of 2, 4-D smoked it.

Here's My Solution to the Problems Raccoons Cause

How much bait do you put in them Skip? I catch plenty in z traps and never fill up to the trigger

    Brassicas

In my experience seeding yard grass at work, I’d give it a couple weeks. That’s purely anecdotal evidence so take it for what it’s worth. I’ve also seeded brassicas a week after spraying and done fine, but also had plenty of rain. Sorry I don’t have a better answer.

Will Mange Spread from Dead Coyotes to Live Coyotes?

Found a dead raccoon on campus when I was a tree trimmer. It was winter time, I thought it would be a “fun” experiment to see what happens when ran through the chipper. All it did was “rattle around” between the feed wheels and the drum. Really gave me the chance to savor the flavor. Took more...

    Rattlesnakes

I believe there’s 3 species of poisonous snakes here, timber rattler, massasagua, and prairie rattler. The second two are only found in a couple of specific spots, so the odds of encountering them are pretty remote.

    Rattlesnakes

I’m almost 100% sure that neither are found in Iowa. Northern water snakes are commonly confused as water moccasins.

Here's My Solution to the Problems Raccoons Cause

A lot of guys I know don’t use dog proofs when the ground is frozen hard. If the trap doesn’t come out of the ground, you lose all swiveling in the trap and chains and will have wring outs.

The disk helps stabilize the trap I believe.

    Hunter harassment??? Stories??

I did some research a while back into that duck hunting situation that Skip shared. I’m pretty sure those kids still ended up getting charged with trespassing. Or something similar. The other dude was totally in the wrong for sure. But if I remember correctly, the landowner told them not to hunt...

Cementum Aging - Am I Wrong?

I figured this guy was close to 10. Had zero prior pics until last year around thanksgiving. Had 9+” bases and not much else. Was very surprised to get the results back that he was 5.5 years old. Made no difference to me, felt good to outsmart a mature deer even though he had a small rack...

Got the age results on my late muzzleloader buck

He showed up on the cams last year for the first time around thanksgiving and was a regular after that. The lack of history and his obscene bases and not much else led me to believe he was old…I thought 9 or 10. Turned out I was way wrong, but I was thrilled to harvest two mature bucks in the...

Got the age results on my late muzzleloader buck

I was and still am absolutely thrilled to have harvested him. They don’t have to score high to be a trophy to me. He’s a mature deer for sure!

Got the age results on my late muzzleloader buck

Ishi is the winner. He was only 5.5 years old. I guess a good “management deer” if that’s all the bigger rack he had in his prime.
