Gun Season Brings out the Worst

I’m hoping the rain slowed the truck hunters down some. There’s a guy from my hometown that has a bunch of mounts…all but one has been shot out of his truck.

    Dad scores a good one!

Great deer and great job on the habitat work.

Random interesting pics from this year

It’s too bad Curtis didn’t walk by a cam, sporting that fancy hair cut he has in his profile pic.

    Slump Buster!!!

Hang in there! It’ll happen, and when it does it’ll be glorious! It wasn’t that I didn’t have opportunities, I’ve passed on decent bucks most every year. Just not quite what I was looking for. I shoot the hell out of does every year, though….we love eating deer in the Fox house.

    Slump Buster!!!

The pallet blinds are nothing special. Just a “u” shape 2 on the front, 1 on each side. We have a couple tucked into thick stuff and allows us to hunt plots with weird winds. I’d like to make something more elaborate someday. The bale blind turned out pretty good and my son has killed probably...

    Slump Buster!!!

I do have pics of him from the last 3 years. They are on the computer at the farm. I’ll have to upload some next time I’m down. These are him from 2021.

    Slump Buster!!!

It’s been 6 years since I’ve shot a buck. Enough said!!! Today I managed to harvest the buck I’ve been after for the last 3 years. Before tonight, I had only laid eyes on him once and that was this year during bow season. At about 2:15 I hopped into a simple pallet blind my son and I made. It...

Doe with a couple messed up hooves

She was a big doe, so hopefully passed on her EHD resistance to her fawns. One hoof was curled up, and the other was half missing. She must’ve been a tough old gal.

    Do’s & Dont’s of Permission farms….

I have a permission property a good friend of mine owns. I’ve hunted out there for over 10 years. I still call or text him every time I hope to come out. He always says yes, and he always tells me how much he appreciates me asking, even though I know the answer. I guess what I’m getting at is...

Doe with a couple messed up hooves

I shot a doe this morning….noticed she had a front hoof and back hoof that were kinda “wonky”. I thought I’ve heard EHD can cause hoof deformities, is that true? I believe 3 years ago, EHD hit the farm here pretty hard as I found 11 dead deer on 130 acres.

    Pheasants 2022

It was a fun day with almost too nice of weather. With a little better shooting we may have been able to get our limit. But to get almost 2 birds apiece in warm weather was still pretty good. And the best part is we still have other places to go another day!

Team 4, I finally put a little bit of meat in the freezer with this doe. Shot last night. Curtis saw her in all her tiny glory….she shouldn’t have blown at me.

    2022 Rut vs Previous years??

The trend of minimal rut activity at the farm I hunt continued this year. For whatever reason after the first week of November the deer seem to disappear. September and October lots of deer sightings, November 5 saw my target buck, November 11….saw nothing. Hopefully the cold weather pushes them...

    Wolf in Northern Iowa??

I heard of one shot by collins.

    Hunting in the rain

Thanks for the advice. I now have a sick kid and will miss some prime deer hunting. Hooray!

    Hunting in the rain

I’m hunting this weekend and it’s going to be rainy. How much does the rain affect your scent dispersal. I have a blind I can sit in, but with east south east winds, it would be less then ideal. Being relatively dry is a huge perk, but I don’t want to f everything up with bad winds. Just curious...

Will we ever have a stable population of these?

They’re not stealthy? If this was the case the orange army would shoot at least one every year.

    Brisk out...venison time.

Congrats on the buck! Unfortunately, I can not get out and enjoy this cold front. Wifey is out of town for work so I’m a single dad till Thursday. Just in time to catch the 70° temps! Lol!
