I never questioned any of our range finders until this summer. My 10 year olds bow used to max out at 38 yards for a sight pin. If deer was 38 yards he nailed it. If it was 40 he would completely miss low.
The r100 shoot they just went to had targets out to 67 and they both nailed em. Built in...
SinceTackett and Wyatt entered the world of 3D archery shooting this summer we discovered that range finders aren’t all the same. I figured that 50 yards and under they would all be pretty accurate. At the state championship this year Tackett’s $99 range finder read a target at 33 yards. He...
In less than two months we have went from never having been to a shoot to pulling off a state title. Tackett has taken 1 st in 4/4 shoots. Two of those he competed in the men’s class and still won them. Wyatt has taken 1st in 3/4 shoots. The state shoot was the only one he didn’t take a first...
Latest update.
This has been a whirlwind. Our 4th 3D shoot was an ASA state qualifier. Our fifth shoot was the state championship. My 13 year old managed to pull off what I imagined was wishful thinking.
I was the same way back in the late 70s.
Fingers and instinctive.
They are both pumped for deer season more than anything this year. Which is a good thing.
Well I took the boys to their first actual scored 3D event. I had to switch out their sliders for multi pins. My 10 year old shot from some white stakes that were 20 yards and under with unknown distances. There were 40 targets, and he took 1st place with a 353. My 13 year old entered in the...
Enjoy your kids NOW! Time flies and you will wish you could go back. I just rediscovered this video that made just two years ago. Amazing how fast they get big.
But I did get you to click and reply on the thread. :) (Title is clickbait)
No we won’t be taking long shots on deer. Both of these boys have killed many deer with bow, gun, and even pistol. This video is not a fluke. They can shoot very very well. This past winter the two of them took turns on...
Here is another friendly competition. My boys love watching Chris Bee. They saw him shooting at Des Moines when he was younger. The gal with the recurve is impressive too.
I saw an 11 year old shoot two 300 Vegas rounds. I finally figured out he had a resistance release.(Carter mini evolution) I also read many other coaches have kids use them to get the surprise release feel down.
I would definitely recommend trying one.
I am still shooting a Martin Quicksilver I bought in 1987. Trigger panic special. LOL
My boys started with cheaper index releases. Then they shot Tru Ball TRexs. They have a video of the T Rexs on their YouTube channel. They still really like them. In fact they have been mixing them back in...
My boys are getting better equipment and better at using it. They are both shooting Stan releases now. Tackett has a used Mathews Vertix and Wyatt a new Elite Basin. I also bought Wyatt an HHA slider sight to match Tacketts.
This is the fourth time they are shooting long range with their bows...
Well we took the boys to their first ever 3D shoot. It was kind of just a fun shoot(not sanctioned). There was only one set of markers at each target. Geared toward good adult compound shooters.
Most of the shots were 35-55 yards. Some of the very small targets were 29 yards. Was very happy with...
They have shot them for just a few weeks. The 10 year old has a new bow, new arrows, higher poundage and the new release. He has shot one 30 round scoring session. His PB was 285 with 4 x’s. This first try he went 287 with 12 x’s and he hit right the whole time.
The 13 year old went from 290 PB...
Well I got my Stan Element yesterday. I haven’t had a chance to shoot it any. We did adjust it some and shoot it on a trainer cord.
My 10 year old may decide to trade me his OnneX. If he can shoot the element better I will trade him. The element is a little smaller and may fit his hand better...
Thanks! They are having a blast. Yes these resistance releases are awesome. I probably would never have tried them until I connected enough dots from researching YouTube videos, and from watching an 11 year old shoot a 300 on a Vegas face.
