First Day of Logging project in the books

Skip I should have stated, in the photos, we haven't logged that area yet. We just moved there before they quit, so there will be considerably more trees harvested in this area tommorow. I have so many big ones, when we take them out it almost looks a little barren. I'm looking forward to next...

    A decent deer trail.

The way that looks, I'm not sure you need to set anything up. Looks like you could sit in the truck(with the heat on) on the bridge. And it would be an ideal stand location.

First Day of Logging project in the books

My first impression is, Wow. The woods sure looks empty in areas when you take a bunch of giant old maples out. The one area they cut they doubled the bedding area size of an already existing bedding area that I already did some cutting on my own. It's very clear I should have let these guys do...

    360° trail cams

I have a pair of 360 revolvers, Food Plots are the best locations, or where a bunch of trails cross. I like mine. Their a little more expensive per month than the reveals. But other than that, their good.

A Straight Walled Gun for my Wife

After taking my wife shed hunting,(she had some luck shed hunting, refer to photo below) my wife thinks she wouldn't mind trying to go deer hunting. I want to make it as comfortable and pleasant as possible. So it's going to be heated blind, heated socks, and hopefully a shot from 100 or less...

    The neighbors farms for sale......

Tillable land prices here have definitely come off the highs, I'd say 10% at least depending on the piece, now the neighbor puts a land for sale sign on a 194acres 175 tillable. It doesn't border me but it's pretty close to home..... He's only asking about 30% more than a recent land auction...

    Logging Project coming up

My goal is to improve my farm. I want my farm for hunt big for it's size, It actually already hunts pretty big.(Pretty Amazing the amount of bucks live and are on the farm) My farm was a city park when I purchased the farm 4 years ago. I could see for hundreds of yards no problem. I've already...

    Logging Project coming up

Prices I got were Grade A .35/BF Grade B .20/BF Pallet Logs .10 Long haul Pallet .07 These are all standing prices. I'm not cutting, or hauling. Their doing all the work. I have 200-250 trees I could take. But probably only cut 120ish. I have some very big old growth that needs to go. I've...

    Logging Project coming up

I asked that question as well. The loggers I'm dealing with have their own mill. So I guess there's a quality of Pallet wood that they have to haul a long ways. Idk. I'm not a logger. Just a land owner looking to improve my property by taking out the Canopy.

    Logging Project coming up

I priced around between loggers a year ago. But I've heard murmurs of mills being short on logs. So has anyone gotten any prices on Silver Maples per 1000 board feet? If so what are you seeing for prices. I got a Grade A Grade B and Pallet Wood and a Long Haul Pallet wood price. I have...

    Brassicas not touched

Was just in one of my brassica plots today, and their completely gone. Demolished. And I don't do anything special. This is the second year, and they didn't leave a thing. I didn't put N on them, and they were pretty good size. Soybean plot got demolished as well. Not many beans left. With no...

    Late winter food

This last year, I Had Brassicas and Standing soybeans side by side. Was a nice combination. Next year I'll have Corn both standing and knocked down. Going to plant Clover where the Brassicas were, and move over a bit and have the Brassicas in an L Shape around the Clover. The following year...

    Wow Just Wow....... Land Prices

All tillable tracts here have come down some. Last land sale in the area 147 acres brought 9600/acre. 74 CSR2 BUT it had 43 acres of BLOW sand not so good of ground. If ya broke the 2 short 80s apart. The Poor 80 being valued at 5k, and valuing the other 80 probably worth 13ish. A very good...

    E bikes on public

E Bikes, Cell Cams both should be banned on public property. I can think of several 2000+ acre pieces that used be really good. Because you could get away from pressure. With E bikes that doesn't exist anymore. To improve public lands I think Iowa should go to some sort of draw system for Public...

    Little Deer with No Ears

Has anyone ever seen a deer with no ears? It just looks like the hairs of its ears are hanging out and that's it. Anyone know what could cause it? Was with another fawn that looked totally normal. Fawns were together, but no mother.

2025-26 deer season change wish list

Some of the ideas above aren't bad. But I think a touch unrealistic. Banning straight walled cartridges won't happen. And Banning Cell cams won't happen. And Banning group hunting also won't happen. A couple I see being a little more realistic. 1) Slash doe tags hard. The areas west of I-35...

    Tis the Shed season

Was out swapping some batteries on a food plot, and looking around the brassicas a little bit, and found this. First one of the year. Looking back on the cam, looks like I have the other side to look for......
