I lost 2 of my best private land hunting spots to leases. Right at the end of October I was informed of this, and it kind of let the wind out of my sails.
And with the SEA of corn that's left in the fields has definitely brought along its challenges.
Nov 7th I was on my way into 1 of my...
Here's my struggle, My best big timber/river bottom spots, are completely surrounded by corn hundreds of acres. I really struggle to hunt the rut when the harvest is really drawn out and the corns out late.
Anybody on here have strategies that combat this???
I'll look into the guy from Waukon. Sounds like a good guy, and willing to do what it takes. That's what I need. What brands does he carry???? Hoyt? Mathews?
Currently Shooting a Bear Agenda 6 with all the goodies. And looking for a New bow shop, That I'll be purchasing, New Bows, accessories, arrows, broadheads, Strings, etc etc from. I'm from North East Iowa. Hour north of Waterloo. So who's any good? And will appreciate the business? Prefer a...
I appreciate all of the feedback guys. I'm not going to be trashing anyone online. It's now been over 2 months. I will say their in Waverly Iowa. Pretty sad a Cash paying customer that buys new bows and ALL the accessories in 1 spot cant get some service. I think I'm going to go pick up my bow.
Story time: Dropped bow off at Shop to have it restrung the end of November. They said it d be 3 weeks and it would be done. So stopped back 3 weeks later, and still nothing done. Said it would be done in 2 more. Stopped back after 2 weeks still nothing. I'm a little perturbed. Have bought 2...
Went and pushed it out today. Went fairly slow. Kicked about 20 deer out. Found a big big bed. And blood in the bed, a spot about the size of a soft ball. Real deep colored blood. He didnt bleed, for the first 100 yards out of the bed. But then He cut loose again. The in about 150 yards quit...
(To answer a few questions) I was hunting by myself. But I do hunt with a family group on the weekend. And we didnt tag out, I shot him at last light. (And my bow buck wasnt chewed on by coyotes) All the deer I've shot over the years I've never had coyotes get ahold of one. I dont think the...
Ok, Scenario 80 yards, standing nice buck. 20 gauge shotgun. I put it right on the shoulder. He mule kicked, ran right into the timber. Waited 2 hours. Went and looked for blood. Not much blood finding a little here and a little there. And found a chunk of Bone with blood on it. Dead or alive...
I've been out shed hunting in early February before. And have seen a mature buck bird dogging a doe fawn like crazy wouldnt leave her side. So they re is always a few late ones that come into heat. If you can find one. You be in a hotspot.
Dont be committed to the same stand locations. I shot my buck on the first sit in a stand ive never hunted before. Knew it was there. But never had hunted it. Dont be afraid to get aggressive and move in close to the bedding areas.
And lastly have to have a little luck.
Last night I drove around some of the areas I shotgun hunt. Seen an absolute stud 160-170 inch 10-12 pointer feeding with about 20 does/ small bucks. He took off after a doe that was in heat, he was completely uncontested. Then hit a couple more areas. And seen a couple more bucks cruising...
This morning me and my uncle went on the track, I only went about 100 more yards and there he laid. He fell down the ridge and died. He was double lunged. It about killed us both trying to pull him straight up the ridge. But all in all it ended well. Not my biggest buck, but I'm happy with him...
I didnt ask to be criticized about my decision to let him lay. I called a good friend of mine, that has literally has killed 100s of deer with a bow. He thought I made the right choice. I've pushed bucks before, and I've lost deer because I pushed them, that other wise woulda been laying their...
Not 100% sure on how much penetration. I pull 70 pounds, and shoot a fixed head. There's about 3 inches of Fresh powder on the ground from last night. So tracking should be good. Where I shot the deer, there wasnt much blood. But where he fell down and kicked there was a fair amount deeper...
Deer was quartering to me at 20 yards and I tucked it up tight to the shoulder and let it fly. Got part of the shoulder and heard a pop when the arrow struck. It stuck in him so no pass through. He ran 20 yards got wobbly and fell down and kicked for 20-25 seconds. Stood back up and Hobbled...
