    Pumpkins/ squash

Here's my patch on 7/24, then again today. Been lucky so far, other than initial ground prep/fertilizer haven't had to do anything except nuking the weeds when the plants were starting to vine out. They got to canopy stage before the rain stopped and the heat hit so have weathered that well...

    Pumpkins/ squash

JNRBRONC is correct on how hybridization works. Also giant pumpkins are a soft stem squash which will not hybridize with hard stem field pumpkins.

    3rd season hunts

Had a couple of days to hunt for myself before the wife's vacation started on Friday. Wednesday didn't have any birds to work even though there was a group of 17 with 5 mature toms in it when I had set the blind a couple weeks ago as a potential youth season spot. Thursday morning had a tight...

    Youth Success 4/11

Finally got out with Drew this morning for his youth hunt. Decided not to go Friday morning since he had a golf meet that day. Yesterday was a wash out with the weather here. Wasn't as nice a morning as I'd hoped with the wind putting a damper on the morning turkey talk. No gobbling on the...

    2021 Iowawhitetail Team Turkey Contest

I like gundogs idea of signing up with his son, I'll do the same with my boy as well. He normally kills bigger ones than I do anyways, lol.

    Pheasants anyone?

Still go out a few times a year, just enough around here in pockets to go after but the action is hit or miss on finding them. Pictured is my 14+ year old Brittany who still likes to go out but only has a couple of hours of running in the tank so hunts are pretty short. Planning on getting...

20-21 Team Contest Score Thread (Teams)

My bow deer from early November for team 1 plus bonus doe if we need one. Sorry, not much help this year but by now you're used to carrying me, lol.

    Team 1- Team 3-peat

How about a nice saddle? That way we can spur him on a little if he shoots something under 200 this year! :p Gutted and skinned my first deer of the year tonight, but it wasn't mine so it won't do the team any good, lol.

    Pumpkins/ squash

I've grown them for a few years for not only a hobby, but plots as well. Weeds-the more weed free they are until vines control the canopy the better they yield, same as other crops. Pumpkins will root from each leaf node as well as the stump so the less weed pressure/competition the vine roots...

    Canada?

Supposed to be up there for the week of July 25th as well. We were able to reserve a 2nd date in late August in case the July week ends up getting cancelled due to the border opening up, but afraid it will hit a point that some camps won't start up even if border opens up if it's too late in...

Largemouth bass limits & thinning on ponds?

Good advice so far. Get a group together, keep enough to have a few good sized fish fries, repeat as necessary till you get catch rate down where you would like it. Get your adult bluegill in ASAP so they can get a spawn off in there this year. Should start seeing results in a couple of...

    3rd Season Success

Tagged my bird Wednesday evening. After setting up a blind for my brother and I to hunt the following morning went to scout another spot. Spotted some birds in the field and used the nearby creek to get into position. Turned out to be 2 jakes and a mature tom. Took a turkey fan to use for my...

    Cold morning

Took Drew out for youth season last weekend. Had a close call Friday but the tom stayed behind the blind on the neighbor instead of joining his ladies in the middle of the decoys. The hunt went fast Saturday morning. They were talking early. This guy pitched out of the tree and came into the...

    RUT ACTIVITY UPDATES?

Last 3 sits there's been yearlings by themselves looking lost. Must be some breeding going on now. Bucks still out cruising/chasing though. Cameras showed quite a bit of 12-2 activity last few days.
