Oh snap, we are back at it? I think resident non landowners are getting the shaft. The RNLs in my area can't get doe tags to manage their friends ground that don't hunt? :)
Ya, the best part of chasing them is when you finally catch them and theres that split second thought of " what in the hell am I going to do with him now"
I've had a few chases in my day.
My first bow bird I hit low and he went out to about 40 yards and just laid down. After emptying my quiver trying to get another arrow in him I decided to sneak out of the back of the blind and try to run him down. As soon as I made the corner of the blind he...
Not much gobbling on the roost this morning. After fly down I had toms, hens and jakes in the field with me but the toms wanted nothing to do with the spread. I watched a couple toms strutting at 80 yards forever following a hen. The hen decided to go back into the timber and the toms stayed. I...
Ive kicked myself for not having one on about every hunt this year. I've spent more time peeking out of the back of the blind then I have looking out the front.
Went out till 11 this am. Had a tom in the field with us but 5 jakes came into our spread then proceeded to run the tom off. Later had a live hen in the spread making all kinds of noise and 3 toms came out and walked by at 60 yards. The first two toms didn't even pay attention to us. The last...
I was out this evening and had 3 toms fired up. They came to about 100 yards and then chased 4 jakes out of sight. I think the next few days will be good.
They went silent after fly down this morning for me as well. Idk what the deal was. Hens making all kinds of racket out wandering alone, never even seen a beard today and very few gobbles after 630.
In my experience I'd say 100 yards is a good cut off. One farm I hunt birds roost in a pocket along a road east of where I set up every year. I set up around 50-75 yards away from them and all the years I've hunted there I've never killed a bird that came from that roost. The "killable" birds...
I went out yesterday morning and the toms were fired up. I was trying to work 3 toms in a pocket east of me all morning but when they finally showed they were henned up and wanted nothing to do with me. I watched them follow the hens over the hill then decided to pick up and move across the road...
