Call me naive until last year- but I didnt realize people were baiting that hard in Iowa. That is until my nonresident neighbors showed up for the second year in a row. Talking to the landowner (not the hunters), I was shocked what they had done while they were here to get the deer to "their...
Again- just because I like the respectful debate here. I fill my LOT tag this year- I am registered on my 17 acres. Where did it come from? My 17? My 30? My rental 60+? There is, I assume, zero data that tells anyone that people are legitimately shooting them on 2 acres? Just simply they are...
This is purely a question- How many tags is this going to actually fix? Again- if someone has over 40 acres- they can STILL hunt those small pieces. If they want to "rent" ground- They can STILL hunt those small pieces. So using the acreage without the true information on the backside literally...
Has anyone planted it? It been decent? Or am I better off looking for my own mixture? (Or creating something?)
Basically- we do have a fruit orchard and bees on my home place and not having “tons” of time with 2 little girls and everything else as well. Looking to plant something that gives me a...
Honestly- biggest change in Iowa the last 20 years has been the doe slaughter, followed with CWD killing, then the plethora of EHD outbreaks.
Landowner tags- in this scenario- are literally nothing. Doe tags are what truly need to adjust to get back to quality of the herd first and foremost. I...
dans is an automatic reply he’s busy this time of year.
They were really responsive and agreeable with my emails. (Which typically I get fabricated emails back- these ones seemed “real”)
I said earlier- I could get behind all LOT getting dropped versus the split right now. But I’ve said plenty- the system itself needs the revamp first and only be owners on deed. That’s the logical first step to close abuse. Then ease into either acreage limit or completely phase out. But im done...
I keep seeing Skip say “shoot unlimited does”… isn’t that what we should be stopping? I mean right now you can clearly see a divide amongst landowners- and only because you are wanting to take from some but not all. I think all of us say- you take them all, ok. You take none, ok. But the acreage...
Hence why I’m making a point now- and again- to go back to my DNR officer and say “the guys on Iowawhitetail say to register my rental piece- even though you told me to do my home piece”- I’d look pretty “sketchy” right?
The reasoning he said “owned” piece over rental is for the following...
Correct- BUT- as I stated, my local DNR said to register my home piece. NOT to use the rental piece since that could end.
So- that leads to- how many pieces get “rented”- and never gets taken away? So I follow what my local officer told me to do.
Correct- all pieces I own are under 40 because it’s all that’s been available. I rent a 60+ acre piece but doesn’t do me any good right? In total I own 47 acres, but not one piece. My DNR officer said to register my home piece. So again- how many people have been told to register “a” parcel- and...
Like stated previously though by a different poster- I register my home place of 17 acres and not any other piece- but I can hunt them all. That doesn’t mean they are getting shot on that 17 acre piece. My local DNR told me to register my home piece since I’m likely to stay here the longest. So...
I do agree debate is healthy and it’s a good way to gauge ideas and concerns. Glad we can discuss as adults here and throw out multiple reasons for each direction.
And again- are those pieces being Tenant tags, LOT tags, are the landowners actually qualified for the tags- or at they just being handed out? I mean- let me play devils advocate for you. You pissed of "substantial" small acreage owners- what if they all say "Get rid of my tag- then I want...
Well again, we can agree to disagree- but 40 acres is not the answer to the "abuse" of the tags. You take away my LOT, my county does not have a doe tag. So now I will get overran with does? Thats not right either. My statement earlier, and where I still lead to- the guy across the river has 60...
Agree- its got to be all or none at that point. Ive said it multiple times over various posts, I think LOT needs to be looked at for qualifications. I know when I signed up, the 2 acres is "conservation program or profitable ground". My COUNTY has a minimum acreage you can parcel off- for...
At least there is cover down there. Up in north 1/4 of the state it gets ugly finding any piece over 40 acres due to farmers have ripped out so much everywhere. I watched 15 acres of trees ripped out last year so they could farm it.
