    Fish stocking recommendations.

If I had that pond to play with I would do Red ear, Bluegill, Perch and Small mouth Bass. Get those established then add Walleye and some Hybrid striped bass. Check out Pond Boss Forums, tons of knowledge on there for everything pond related.

% dropped antlers? Part of state, deer #’s & food?

Probably 20% dropped in early January around my farm south of Pella. High population in my area and no food other than crop fields. All of the corn fields in my area had tillage work this fall and the deer are not feeding in them like normal winters. The alfalfa and grass fields are getting...

    Tips on re-attaching antlers

I agree with Ishi, it needs to be pegged. I would take it to a taxidermist and have it done right. I have one at the taxidermist now that needs put back together too.

    Coyote problem

I read a study several years ago that said coyotes can sustain a 70% yearly mortality rate and still maintain a stable population. The only thing I have seen knock down the coyote population is mange, it ran through my area 3-4 years ago and the population still has not recovered.

    Unfortunate find

A neighbor got a poor shot on him the end of October. I’ve seen him several times since and thought he would recover. I have his sheds from last year pretty sure he was only 4.5 this year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Unfortunate find

Found a shed buck in my crick on Saturday barely alive. Shot him as he wasn’t going to make it. Went for a walk Sunday and picked up his antlers. Left side scored 95” right side 78” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Early shed year? Brother’s buck shed at shot

I picked up a fresh shed Sunday, have a couple missing one side on camera. I think they do shed earlier than 5-10 years ago.

Ideal time? How long to hang a deer & temp?

I hang mine in a cooler at 34-38 degrees for a week. It makes a huge difference in the quality of the meat. Same as ageing beef before they butcher it. With just hanging one in your garage or shed the temperature fluctuations cause issues Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What's your unpopular hunting opinion

Anyone buying land just for hunting then getting landowner tags is breaking the law. The most fun fall turkey hunting is from a boat on the lake. And before I get crucified I asked the game warden if it was legal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    EHD related question

Small sampling of my 20 acre farm. Since 2012 I have found 7 bucks dead in my crick or a couple hundred yards downstream on the neighbors. 3 of those were 160" deer the others 110-120. This year I found 3 bucks, a 160 and a couple 2.5 year olds, also a couple does. Talking to neighbors it...

    15 Acre Tree Planting Options

I have a neighbor that did a direct seeding 15-20 years ago. He did 40 plus acres of old pasture and I know it was a government program of some kind. Today it is a very nice stand of timber, I'm sure he lost plenty to browse but I think the size of the planting helped spread it out.

    Deer Depradation Must Read

A buddy that is a member of the Iowa Christmas Tree Growers Association sent me an article from their newsletter yesterday. The article spelled out how property owners can shoot deer to protect their property, year round, no permission needed under articles 1 and 23 of the iowa constitution...

    Black bears HF2133

There was one photographed just west of Oskaloosa a couple years ago. It was killed by a car in Poweshiek county that fall. A farmer in Franklin county shot one in 2008

Abnormally high amount of pics like this.....

Yes we had some EHD in my area, Marion Mahaska county line south of Pella. The deer looked healthy other than the lung issue.

Abnormally high amount of pics like this.....

I had one half rack last week and now he has dropped the other side. Bucks in my area seem to run hard from late October clear into January. We killed three deer 2nd shotgun that had messed up lungs. One the lung cavity was full of yellow jello looking stuff. The other two the lungs were stuck...

    UTV

The older gators are almost indestructible. We run them at work till they die, usually around 3500 hrs the motor blows. Not as big a fan of the newer ones. If you have to cross a river anything belt drive could be a problem if the belt gets wet.

    Ghillie Suit

I have an old one that's made like a trench coat. It is just strips of camo fabric, burlap and twine sewn to an open mesh, and it deffinitly has an oder. Mine is shaggy enough you need to practice with your bow while wearing it. I don't bow hunt anymore but still wear it gun season, I just throw...

    Which Does to shoot?

For population control and limiting crop loss, shoot the does dropping triplets every year. Otherwise shoot the big old ones like everyone else said.
