2025 Iowa Deer Season Regulations Survey

Agreed. Even with temps in the 20s, a well designed plot is crazy effective and predictable. More so than a good rut funnel IMO

2025 Iowa Deer Season Regulations Survey

I think this poll got a lot of great discussion going. Just an idea for next time, but a ranked choice poll would create a better data set for this type of question on a survey. Something to consider for future polls. I'd also volunteer to word-craft the questions if ISC is interested, I did a...

    Iowa Sportsman's Club Membership Drive

I signed up right around the deer classic, would signing up again now bump my membership 365 days I'm assuming?

    ? FARM BILL QUESTION

My bet is it won't be until well after the election. It certainly won't happen in 2024 and we'd be lucky for the first half of 2025. I got an email from PF that there were meetings about it but that's far from having any details sured up, voted on, and in place.

DNR to host Western Iowa deer population meetings in July

They assume under reporting in their data and decision making about EHD. In September I talked to the CO when he came out to confirm an EHD deer in Appanoose about that. The numbers on that infographic are only the ones that an IDNR staff has confirmed, not the ones that were simply called in...

    What's next for Republicans?

@whitetail_obsession that is spot on from start to finish. We were doomed when Nixon took us off the gold standard and nobody revolted.

Assuming you have the power in 2024...

In order of importance, in my opinion- -ensure the forest reserve stays intact/as is, plus increased incentivize habitat conservation practices -ensure crossbows for able-bodied stay out of the archery season forever -blackpowder only for early and late muzzy, no magnified scopes (iron sights...

    Other states stepping up

I'm all for landowner doe tags being cheap, especially in the counties with late rifle seasons on the table. I wouldn't want that option where I live in western IA though...our populations are down the tubes right now.

    Other states stepping up

Good for CO! Long needed. Oklahoma doubled the price of the NR buck tags. NE went to draws for every type of NR deer tag. States are starting to catch on...

Turning the corner in the real estate market?

Pieces are still moving but at least it isn’t “name any price and have people lined up” crazy. That 99 in Van Buren has been reduced by almost 40% of the original listing price. Now it’s almost at market value! That 120 in Appanoose was listed with Kiloterra when I saw it sell, then a couple...

    Is this Bow Hunting?

...the question was is it bow hunting or not. Crossbows are already legal during late muzzy season, where they belong.

Turning the corner in the real estate market?

Recently saw an Appanoose 120 sell and then the new guy had it listed as an 80 and a 40 within a week. Dunno if he sold them or not.

NR party hunting to be eliminated

So far they (Drurys, Lakoskys, etc) haven't voice concern on much larger issues than this, I highly doubt they touch this one. Also, you can probably thank that video, Drurys, THP, etc for drawing such attention to the "loophole". A friend at DNR said in the last 2-3 years they have fielded...

NR party hunting to be eliminated

That's already the way it is...try to go hunt an elk or mule deer in any state without waiting 3-20 years... At first glance, I don't mind at all that they are closing this loophole. Yes, there are people "selling" their resident tags to NRs using this loophole legally or illegally. That's some...

Great podcast to listen to! Steve Hansen on the Land Podcast

You could also limit the scope options. Certain muzzleloader seasons are blackpowder and open sights or 1x scope. That effectively makes any blackpowder gun a 100 yard max, and even that distance takes lots of practice with open sights.

Great podcast to listen to! Steve Hansen on the Land Podcast

I'd love it. Make it actually a traditional season- blackpowder and open sights (or 1x scope). Leave crossbows there but limit the scope magnification.

    Raccon bounty

They'll respond to calls year round. We always use "coon squalls". If you've ever heard two coons fighting in the dawn/dusk treestand time then you know the sound. We've put out the furry spinning decoy too and that'll suck them right into like 10 yards. Make a setup, call a couple in (or not)...
