Norway spruce are supposed to be deer resistant. They will get rubbed on like all conifers until a certain size. I'm thinking that in a tough winter deer would eat them if hungry enough. I'm not taking any chances and figured I'd cage them rather than regretting it later.
Adding to the above. Great info, but what you should do so you don't get a deer caught in the leg or whatever is put a stop on the cable. I just use a small nut or something similar to crimp down onto the cable. That way a deer leg wouldn't get caught. Basically don't let the snare slide (close)...
I definitely think that helped. Any dead coyote is a great thing. I have witnessed them dragging dead fawns around. My hat's off to you. Please keep up the good work!
Glad you are trying to salvage the deer. What you may want to do is put a tag on it. Not trying to be a dick, but the deer has been moved and I'd hate to see you get into trouble by trying to do the right thing.
Interesting, I was thinking about trying it. I basically saw it in Welters seed catalog and got me thinking. Wouldn't have to plant it every year like I do with other seed.
